What? Did You Say Something?

On Sunday nights at church there are several options for adults. You can either: stay in the sanctuary and listen to the sermon, go to a women’s only class, or go to a couple’s class. Kevin and I want to stay together, so the women’s only class was immediately ruled out. We stayed and listened to the sermon one week and went to the couple’s class the next.

We decided that we would attend the couple’s class from now on. I have to be honest here and brag a little at the same time. Kevin and I do not need this class. In fact, our teachers are great, but I truly believe that we could teach this class ourselves. We never argue and there aren’t any pressing issues that we disagree on; our marriage is rock solid. But, this is a fun class with fun people, plus its interesting hearing how so many different issues affect these marriages. We like to listen to what other people are going through and then we are even more thankful for each other and what we have.

Each week you are supposed to make a “date” with your spouse and complete the given assignment. Kevin and I really don’t have anything to work on during these assignments because they’re supposed to be helping you with issues that you may have. So, I put this week’s assignment off ….. until today. I thought that we would have a chance to look over it before going back to church tonight.

Jennifer, my sister has a birthday this Tuesday so in order to celebrate we went out to eat right after church this afternoon. I put the assignment in my purse thinking that Kevin and I could go over it at the table. Also, Jennifer and her husband missed class last week so I thought that we might get to discuss it. Wrong! We went to Damon’s Bar and Grille which has four big screen TV’s. Kentucky was in the SEC Tournament against Florida, so they were packed! My mom was sitting right across from me and I had to yell for her to be able hear me. I had no idea whatsoever that they would be playing the game at that volume. Then during the commercials they played music to get everyone riled up and cheering. When I told my mom and sister my plans to work on the assignment they had a good laugh. They had previously sat in the TV room and they knew better. Oh well, we did get to quickly go over everything with each other. When there isn’t anything to work on it goes pretty quickly. If I could suggest a class it would be one on "parenting teenagers". Now that's a class we could use!

By the way, just in case you’re curious: Kentucky won :)
