Dimwitted Logic

Ashley brought a note home from school today. You will find what it said below. I am typing it exactly, including caps locked, and the underlined sentences.

AVOID HAVING LATEX IN THE SCHOOL
**Blank Blank Elementary will be welcoming a new student to our school on Wednesday, March 16th. This student has an LATEX ALLERGY. In order to maintain a safe environment for our new student we need to ask that parents make a conscience effort not to send any latex balloons to the school. If you desire to send your child something for their birthday, etc. please refrain from sending anything latex, especially balloons. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

**I’m not giving the name of my child’s school.
Yes, they got the date wrong on the note. Today is Tuesday the 16th. The person who wrote the note also put “an” latex allergy in the second sentence, whereas I would have said “a” latex allergy.

So, what’s the point of me giving this information? The point is that the whole thing is asinine! There are probably over three hundred students in this school and we can’t send balloons because of one child. Give me a break! This kid needs to be home-schooled or in a special place where no latex is used. I guess everyone is just supposed to sit back and suffer because of this one kid. Yea, THAT really seems FAIR.

That does seem a bit extreme. The school's probably afraid of a lawsuit if they don't send such a notice out to cover themselves.

It sounds like we are all going down the same route - we can't put plasters on children now without a note to allow it. Hair gell is not allowed - a fire risk! We also have some different safety gloves so that a child who has this allergy doesn't react to the gloves that we have to put on if they bleed and need first aid. The first part now becomes a downright 'lie'.Bleed away while I check your records, put on the correct goves then see if I can do anything to help you!!

Oh my! The hair gell rule has not made it here yet. It kind of makes you wonder who has the time to sit and make all of these rules!

One of my Louisiana friends told me the kids her daughter's age (kindergarten) have to use clear plastic backpacks. Crime is so bad where they live in southern LA the teachers have to see what kids are carrying. Right now she's homeschooling.

...Gee, think they're afraid some kid has brought contraband balloons and hair gel? ;)

They made that rule here too about the backpacks, but I haven't seen them enforcing it.
