All In The Golden Afternoon
I think summer might finally be here for a while. This weekend it got in the 80’s, the sky was blue and the grass green. Flowers and trees are blooming all around me and its rejuvenating! I am truly enjoying this time of year.
We went to The Lexington Cemetery yesterday and fed the ducks and geese. We saw a goldfish in the pond that was as long as my forearm I kid you not! I have never seen a goldfish that big! After that, we walked through the garden. The tulips are once again in full bloom and have magnificent color! If you haven’t looked through my photo gallery, now would be a good time to do so just for reference. I have pictures in there from the cemetery last year. It looks the same this year but you never get used to the beauty of it. After gray days with no leaves or anything green, this is invigorating.
Seeing those flowers reminded me of one of my favorite songs from the Disney movie Alice In Wonderland: All In The Golden Afternoon. Here are the lyrics:
Lily:Laaaa...
Violets: Mimimimi...
Marguerite:Lalalala...
Snap-dragon:Hahahahahahaha...
Marigolds:Poem, poepoem, poem, poempoempoempoem....
All flowers:
Little bread-and-butterflies kiss
the tulips, and the sun is like a
toy balloon. There are get up in
the morning glories, in the golden
afternoon. There are dizzy daffodils
on the hillside, strings of violets
are all in tune, Tiger lilies love
the dandy lions, in the golden
afternoon, the golden afternoon.
There are dog and caterpillars and a
copper centipede, where the lazy
daisies love the very peaceful life
they lead... You can learn a lot of
things from the flowers, for especially
in the month of June. There’s a wealth
of happiness and romance, all in the
golden afternoon. ... All in the golden
afternoon, the golden afternoon...
Alice:
You can learn a lot of things from the
flowers, for especially in the month of
June. There’s a wealth of happiness and
romance, oh...
Flowers:...the golden afternoon!
I also love having the windows open so that the soft breeze can come in and sweep over me. It’s the perfect temperature and it’s good to air out the house. Our cat, Church loves being able to get closer to the birds. When he sees a bird land in the backyard, he’ll creep up to the window very slowly. His long, black tail swishes back and forth. The more anxious he gets, the faster it swings. Sometimes his whiskers quiver. It’s at those times that I know he can actually taste the bird. Yum! Yum! I honestly think that if he ever got hold of one, he wouldn’t know what to do with it. He’s lived a very sheltered life!

I felt like I was right there with you when I read this entry. What a nice thing to read today. :)
I've had our windows open, too, but have had to close them when the rains come through -- we've had some horizontally-falling rain with high winds. Still, it's so nice to smell the spring earth and rain smell.

I knew that some of you would understand where I was coming from. It’s nice to have a positive attitude towards life :)
