From You I Have Been Absent In The Spring

Last night I finished Absent in the Spring another great book written by Mary Westmacott AKA Agatha Christie. It is about a woman who takes a journey literally, emotionally, and psychologically. Joan, the main character, is traveling by car through the desert in Tell Abu Hamid when it becomes stuck because of rain. She has no choice but to spend her time at the local Rest House. After reading the few books that she brought along with her, she is left with nothing but her thoughts. In Joan’s case, these thoughts leave her emotions in frenzy. She makes discoveries about herself that she had never known existed.

Joan is in many people. She means well … or does she really?

I have now read all of the books that Agatha Christie wrote as Mary Westmacott and I am saddened. There weren’t enough of them! They were all wonderful and all reminded me of people close to my heart. I’m sure that I will read them again very soon.

I have yet to read any of those, but need to. I'm still reading "Stiffs: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers". We've been busy in the yard and doing other things lately. I have managed to goober up my right wrist, though, so I think I will read today and rest it. Using the mouse hurts, using it at all hurts - blah. Good excuse to read...with my left hand. ;)

GW, I'm so sorry about your wrist, but you're right it IS a great excuse to read, read, and then read some more ... even if it is about cadavers! LOL! :)
If you read any interesting facts or stories, you'll have to post about it!

You see how you influence us; I'm reading Blackwood Farm by Anne Rice. How do you sleep at night after reading about vampires? It's starting to give me the heeby jeebies.

Oh Lynne, I hope that you've read all the other vampire books first. You may get more out of the characters if you have :)

Nope, this is my first one and it's all a little bit strange...is Louisiana known for its vampires? Who is this Lestat character and I'm having problems with the Talamasca, are they the vampire slayers?

I would honestly suggest you stop reading Blackwood Farm right away no matter how far along you are. You meet Lastat in the first book, Interview with the Vampire. The Talamasca is also explained. They are basically a group that closely follows the vampires and witches.
If you start at the beginning, you learn about everything: the places, characters, their habits, etc. By reading Blackwood Farm before you have read the others is equal to beginning watching a movie right in the middle; you are missing out on a lot of great story!
Anne Rice, up until a short while ago, has always lived in New Orleans, Louisiana. I guess that’s why she placed her characters there. I know that the first book takes place in Paris. They do travel, but I don’t want to give too much away.
Take my advice and you will fall in love with this series of books.

...but I can't just stop!

Okay, don't stop, but at least go back to the beginning when you are finished with this one. I think your curiosity will be too much to handle anyway :)

I have a nifty black brace for my wrist and hand now. Yesterday I began reading "Of Mice and Men". Poor Lennie...Poor little mice, LOL.
