Germaphobe?

I overheard an interesting conversation that some ladies were having on television. They were discussing things that you should wash before you use them even though they are new. Here is a list of just some of the new things I wash before I use:

*bed linens
*towels and wash cloths
*undergarments
*socks
*fruits and vegetables
*bathing suits
*anything that one would use in the kitchen

I think that’s about it. If any of you out there can think of any more, let me know. I know that not everyone washes their linens before using them. The only reason I do this is to take the stiffness out. Some of you might not pre-wash your socks either. I do this to get rid of the extra fuzz. It really does seem to help especially with dark socks. I know that my neighbor washes the lid of her cans off before she drinks from them. I think this is a great idea especially if you drink directly from the can. You never know who or what has touched it. I never wash mine off just because I can’t stand drinking from a can. I always have a glass of whatever I’m drinking, normally Diet Sunkist, over ice and preferably with a straw. Real classy, I know!

Sunday night at church we had a sort of pot luck dinner, but right before that we had all shaken hands with at least ten other people. I made sure that Kevin and I used my handy little bottle of waterless soap. The couple next to us used some of it also. Did anyone else even think about washing their hands? If they did, I didn’t see them. I know that some of them probably think that I am a huge germaphobe (I don’t think that’s a real word), but I’m not. I just like to be clean.

So, my question to everyone out there is this: Are you concerned about germs? Do you wash before you use new items or is this just a Tami thing?

I love the newness of linens and so would never wash it out. I do wash food stuff but that's all.Oh, Tami what would Martha say? I think it may have something to do with my impoverished upbringing; everything seemed to be 'hand-me-downs'. AND the smell of a new car...

I also like to be clean and wash my hands before eating anything. It's not that I'm over cleanly or obsessed - I just think that it's good practice as you never know what's lurking about! :)

I like to wash bed linens to soften them. I should be more careful with hand-washing/sanitizing when in public. I wash my hands before eating at a restaurant, but don't always think to at potlucks and that sort of thing.

Washing hands takes me back to hospital last November, not in any morbid way I can assure you, but it was interesting to see that some people made sure they washed their hands before treating a patient, others didn't. Now is it any wonder that we have the superbug rampaging in our wards?

Washing the tops of soda cans is good practice whether you drink from the can or not. When you open the can, part of it goes into the drink and then you when you pour it out it is touching part of the outside again. It's been said that there could be rat urine on the cans from sitting in warehouses. Ewww.
