Odd Behavior
I am witnessing a new phenomenon when it comes to Christmas lights. This would be the people who decorate outside with lights, but never actually turn the lights on or rarely turn them on.
The people who live on our corner (I have never met them) have decorated everything in their yard. They have a privacy fence that encloses their pool. Even this fence has been decorated; not only with lights, but with Christmas decorations. But, the lights are everywhere. I bet if they were lit they would look beautiful. They did this same thing last year: decorated and NEVER turned on their lights. My question is: why bother? They’ve spent countless hours decorating for what? Are they too cheap to actually turn them on? I just don’t get it.
I have seen other people that are this same way. They may turn the lights on occasionally, but for the most part keep them off. Once again my question is why? Oh, and not being at home doesn’t count. If a person knows that they won’t be home at dusk, then they should turn them on before they leave. If you think you have a reason for this odd behavior I would love to hear it.

I don't like to let them burn when i'm gone, fear of fire. Don't even like it when i'm home and in bed asleep.

We turn ours off while we sleep also. But why put them up and not turn them on at all?

Aha, you expect people to do the normal thing????? Perhaps the enjoyment is in the putting up of the lights and then watching your expressions when they are not turned on!!

Maybe they just want them up for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. There are those type of people. Not me though. When I put them up they are on from dusk to dawn and from end of November to mid Jan. I did not put any up this year though. Just my trees inside and the big one sits in front of the big window that faces the street.

The compound is full of Christmas lights and scenes. Those children who have to stay here throughout the holiday will at least get some Christmas spirit. Most of the guys will be working on the aircraft Christmas day!!

We have photosensitive outside fixtures for the dusk 'til dawn thing is easy to do now. In years past, especially with our nightowl hours, we'd forget to turn the lights off during the day. One Sunday, my mother-in-law had a message on her machine, left by one of OUR neighbors. The neighbor is a nosy busybody type, and she called my MIL's home by accident...Said she noticed our holiday lights were still on and didn't we know how expensive electricity is??? We about died!
