Don't Go Changing To Try And Please Me
I have used Sea Breeze Astringent on my face ever since I was 16 years old. I never use soap and water because this cleans deep and takes away my make-up and any dirt that I may have picked up during the day. I have always been happy with it until very recently.
It seems that they have come out with a new formula and a new name. They are now calling it Sea Breeze Actives. I don’t exactly know what the “Actives” part means. What I do know is that it now has a different smell and it makes my skin feel sticky. I may as well be taking a sucker and rubbing it all over my face. That is how bad it is.
The bottle that I have is an old one. It’s bigger, so when I bought the new kind (without knowing that it was a new kind), I poured it out of the small bottle into my old, bigger bottle. The problem with that is that my old bottle gives a website that no longer exists and an 800 number that no longer works either. I wanted to call and find out if they were still making the original kind and if so, what stores were carrying it. I have been to Wal-Mart and K-Mart here in town and they both have the new stuff only.
I also looked on my old bottle to see who makes Sea Breeze. It’s Clairol, but when I go to their website they don’t mention all of their products: only the hair care stuff. I guess I am being forced to try something new. Have I mentioned before how much I hate change?
*UPDATE*
We went to Wal-Mart and I made sure that I looked for the new website on the new bottles of Sea Breeze Actives. The website given was www.seabreezeproducts.com and guess what! That one doesn’t work either! I bought something totally different anyway and I hope it works without making me feel sticky. I bought Clean & Clear. Their website actually works! Yea! I will let you know what happens.
*ANOTHER UPDATE*
I like the Clean & Clear. It felt like my face was burning off at first, but after that, my skin felt tight and clean. I think I’ll stick with this for a while.

Poor you! Changes are accosting you left and right, poor thing! ;) I like Clean & Clear products. Any more I don't use astringents, but that may change now that summer's here. For cleanser I use Wal-Mart's generic for Cetaphil.

I woke up this morning and had just the same experience you had! I ran out of the Sea Breeze in my big bottle. I bought a smaller bottle last weekend, and did not even notice the "Active" or the "New Formula." I just buy the yellow astringent like I always do. I opened it up, noticed the different smell, then saw the changes on the bottle. Like you I went to both websites to find out what the hell is going on; both are not working. I'm mad! I have been using Sea Breeze for the past 15 years. I've tried other products, and they make me break out. I'm now 30, I don't need an acne treatment, I need a face cleanser. I even tried the other types of Sea Breeze, the green formula for oily skin and the blue formula for sensitive skin (both of which I have, but not within the last 5 years or so). I'm with you, if it ain't broke don't fix it! And if you make changes, at least have a working website so I can complain! I seem to remember a little thing called the "New Coke" fiasco. Maybe if we complain enough, they will bring back the original formula!

Thanks for the tip Tami. When I ran out of Sea Breeze, I ran to the store and even bought 2 of the Sea Breeze Atives bottles, without knowing that this is a new formula. After 1 treatment, I threw both the new bottles into the trash, wasted $9. I'm 32 and I agree, I do not need acne treatment, just a cleanser. If you girls find contact information to complain to, please post it. In the mean time, I will try the Clean and Clear products.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who is so upset about Seabreeze. I am 51 years old and I've been using this product for over 20 years! I loved it and the way it made my skin feel so clean. I am so very angry that they changed the formula!! I ran to Target and bought all they had of the the Original formula--I don't know what I'm going to do when I run out.

I found this page while trying to find the website for Seabreeze like everyone else. The website on my bottle,www.seabreezeproducts.com doesn't seem to exist. My bottle says it's distributed by Idelle labs. I called the 800 487-7273 on the bottle and it's a recording for "Helen of Troy" company. They're closed for the weekend but I found their website www.hotus.com and they show one of their subsidiaries as Idelle Labs when you click on their Product Catalog button. Then when you click on Idelle spot on the Helen of Troy website it shows Seabreeze but only the new kind.
I'm like you folks and have been using it for years for a variety of uses. It works great for taking away the sting of mosquito bites and other bug bites as well as an astingent. I've used it on cuts and scrapes too. Always bring a bottle with me going camping etc. Anyway. I bought two bottles of the new stuff and am taking them right back. Don't like the smell. I noticed for one thing the ingredients no longer include oil of peppermint. Nice to know I'm not the only one who was very disappointed to find they changed it.

Thank you Mark for the information. Their email address is:

I emailed them and I hope you all do the same. They need to hear from us. They need to know how much we loved the old product.

This was very informative. My girlfriend is just crazy about sea breeze and it really upset her when I showed her this website and she came to the realization that this product is gone. We spent all day Saturday driving from grocery store to grocery store, town to town buying the old bottles they had on the shelf. Most places ran out. Some places had 2 or 3. We ended up with around 20 bottles or so. hehehe

That's great Jimmy! I wish I had done that earlier. Now I fear that it's too late. I guess I could try at those out-of-the-way drug stores though.

I'm so relieved to find this website and discover that others are in the same boat! I too have used Sea Breeze for more than 20 years, and just discovered (the same way you all did) the change. I HATE the new formula. Sticky, yucky. I just can't believe they trashed the good stuff. I will write to the address above. Thanks for the tip about Clean&Clear. I'll give that a whirl.

I have found the new product to be terrible also! It's nice to hear others think the same way I do. My mother intoduced me to seabreeze many years ago, I am 48 and have used it all my life. My Mom used ever since I can remember. The original product is super, the new stuff is terrible! I'm glad I found this web site, I also had problems finding their web site, but because of this one I e-mailed them and told them I hate the new product! Why do people insist on changing things that work!
Posted by: Jamie at May 2, 2005 9:23 AM
I actually looked for a website that I could express my opinion. I am 48 years old and have used Sea Breeze all my life. I go through a bottle a week. I've always had wonderful skin. What are we going to do. I feel like I lost my best friend. I actually cried. I'm going to try to make my own. I'm that desperate.
Posted by: rose at May 2, 2005 3:05 PM
Just called Helen of Troy, they discontinued and will not bring it back. The person that answered could have cared less about what I was saying. I'm going to try to make my own.
Posted by: rose at May 2, 2005 3:17 PM
I just got an Email back from them and they claim that the Sensitive Formula is still the same formula as I have always used in the past. I'm going to check it out. Does anyone know?
Posted by: rose at May 2, 2005 3:21 PM
Rose, I tried the Sensitive Skin formula a while back and it was not as strong (hence the name) as the original. If you like it though, that's better than none at all. I went around town this weekend and was able to find eleven of the old bottles. Have you tried to find any? I would not recommend the Clean & Clear - at least not the formula that I bought. It just burns my skin too bad. It's a shame that the person you talked to wasn't more sympathetic.
Posted by: Tami at May 2, 2005 5:28 PM
The saga continues. I tried the clean & clear and it doesn't give that cooling affect that the old sea breeze did. I read the ingredients on the Sensitive Sea Breeze and it's not the same as the old original and it shows Actives on the label. So I know it won't be the same.
I found one from Suave that will be a stand in for now. The cooling affect is from menthol rather than the peppermint oil.
What I have found is one by Thayers (www.thayers.com) It is a medicated one - ingredients are: Thayers® Proprietary blend of Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera, Calendula, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Camphor, Clove, Menthol Esters, Purified Water, Natural Grain Alcohol (20%)
Sea breeze old ingredients: Water; SD Alcohol 40B; Camphor; Peppermint Oil; Clove Oil; Eucalyptus Oil; Eugenol; Sodium Benzoate; FD&C Yellow No. 5; D&C Orange No. 4
As you can see it is very close. I'm going to order some and I'll let you know. It is more expensive. 11.5 oz for $9.00 & I'll have shipping since I'll have to order it off the net.

I find that nothing else works, even the sensitive skin stuff and am in the exact same boat as you all....38 and panicing b/c the one cleanser I use is now gone. can't find it anywhere in Ft Worth and have my alabama and montana relatives looking for me too. will appreciate any news about close substitutes or sources!!!
Posted by: heather at May 16, 2005 9:06 PM
I just landed on this subject randomly, but thought I would add my 2¢! I have been using Seabreeze for a long time, also. I am 46, but it still feels great, especially in the hot Texas summers.
Anyway! I just bought a new bottle. Please note, that I HAVE always used the Sensitive Skin formula (well for many years). I have rosacea, and try not to use anything TOO STRONG. I was at WalMart 5/14/05, and noticed the Actives stuff. It has salicylic acid in it, which I didn't want. That is more for acne, and can make your skin peel. I tend to read labels, as I am a retired pharmacist:).
So, I just bought my usual blue-colored Sensitive Skin formula. I will have to check out any decisions re. this formula being continued. If so, I will be stocking up on my old SS formula. I don't think that stuff would go bad for years with it's ingredients.
OK, I visited that site. It takes forever to load, and doesn't seem to be too helpful. The Sensitive Skin Formula is still pictured. MY bottle from WalMart looks identical, but does NOT say NEW up in the corner. They don't list the ingredients.
Hmmm...I'm not sure that I have helped any. My recently purchased bottle still says Clairol on it. If anyone wants me to search rural NE TX stores for the old stuff, let me know!

I'm so angry. I just ran out of my last bottle of old sea breeze. I've also been using it for more than 20 years. This new stuff is disgusting, I actually have to wipe my face off after using it, it's so sticky. I can't count how many products that I have loved over the years that have been discontinued. Another is the wet and dry eye shadow by Revlon. It went on so nice, now it's gone. I wish these companies would realize that people stop buying from them when they do this. If anyone has any more good substitutions, please post them. I couldn't tell from the last post if the sensitive skin formula is now sticky also? I'd just be happy without the sticky feeling. Thanks to you all!!

I got an email back from them on their site - seabreezeclean.com - they say they are in the process of evaluating whether to still keep the original formula. I hate the Actives stuff - I went to Sally's Beauty Supply yesterday and they still carry the original formula in large bottles - I bought a gallon jug for $30.00 - I did email Sea Breeze back and ask if Sally's will continue to carry the original since it is used by professionals as some type of scalp treatment. Hopefully this helps - it was so nice to use the GOOD STUFF before I went to bed last night! I actually felt clean again!
Posted by: Denise at May 24, 2005 1:45 PM
Regarding my last post with the information about Sally's Beauty Supply - I received another email from Helen of Troy - who manufacture's Sea Breeze now - and they will continue to market the Original Sea Breeze thru the Sally's chain!! Yay! Hopefully everyone has a Sally's near them in order to be able to purchase it - if not - let me know :)

Posted by: Tami at May 25, 2005 5:43 PM
Thanks to Denise, I now have a couple of gallons in my closet (my Mom from out of town will laugh at my stock, because she always remarks on the smell of my sea breeze whenever we're at one or the others' house). Thank you Denise!!!

I am amazed I found so many others with my exact problem. I am a 37 yo male and have been only using sea breeze original formula for a short while. I am so disappointed that it may no longer be available, my wife and I have been searching for the old stuff without sucess. Like so many others here, I specifically do not want a product with salicylic acid in it. I really hope that they bring back original formula, it was the best astringent product ever made!!!

Just to let you know that Canada is in the same shape. I'm from the Alabama but live in Canada and usually get my supply from the local Wal-Mart store back home. The last couple of times we were down I was looking for SeaBreeze just like everyone else with no luck. So the last time I settled for the Actives stuff. Needless to say I am so impressed with it that I am returning it to Wal-Mart the next time we are down. I try to make sure that things are carried in both countries so I didn't worry that much about it. I've searched every store in the town that we live in and all they keep telling me is that "they have evolved into better and new products; they do not carry it anymore".
I was just sick at the beginning of the postings thinking that our beloved SeaBreeze was gone and so happy to see that Sally's carries it. I'm checking tomorrow and if they have it I'm picking up a few gallons too.
Thanks for keeping us updated and the hint about Sally's. Hopefully Helen of Troy will realize what a mistake they have made and go back to the original product.

My sister and I are in the same boat. We are now both in our 30's and only need a cleaner. We have used the original formula since we were teens and now our own children were being taught to use it. It made the acne prevention program, as a teen, a one step process. NO teen is going to do anything to time comsuming. We'll keep looking for the old stuff here in Florida.

Hope this helps ya'll out.

Hey there peopl! Im from LA and you guys got hip to this about three or four months before I did! I like all of you have been using Seabreeze for a good 20 years and look at it as a necessity! I was just informed by the indifferent lady answering the phone at Helen of Troy that this product so crucial to my skin and social life has been discontinued! Excuse me?! What the Hell is this? Maybe we can get some kind of campaign going to get this company to understand that its in both theyre and our best interests to bring the original formula back.
Posted by: Hector at June 30, 2005 8:04 PM
I am so glad other people are looking for this product. I am 45 and have been using Sea Breeze for years. This is the second facial product that I use that has been discontinued recently -- the 2nd is Avon's ClearSkin Facial Scrub (so If you also use that one bombard the Avon website with complaints)
I just ordered a one-gallon jug of (hopefully) the original formula Sea Breeze at WWW.EbonyLine.com. It cost me $33.51 which includes shipping for 128oz. Considering I was paying $5 at the store for 10oz. this is a bargan. But honestly, I'd pay $100 a gallon just to get the old stuff back.

I am 43 years old and started using Sea Breeze for sun burns about 35 years ago. My dad always used it for after shave.
My twin sons, now 22, also use it for after shave as do I.
Heck, we even use it for cancor sores (very good), blisters, sun burn, rash, dandruff, poison ivy, etc., etc.
We are all disgusted by the change to the product.
Thanks to Pat, I also just bought two gallons at ebonyline.com. My price was about $2.40 per 10oz. as opposed to $4.85 at my local drugstore for the new stuff.
Hopefully the new owner will keep making it available through the internet ... I don't mind the discount!

I can not believe they changed it!!!! What are they crazy? Do they not know how many loyal users from all over the country depend on this stuff! I need it!!! After two weeks of hellish breakouts I found some Original formula on the internet for $5.00 a bottle, thank God, I cried.....
I have sent several letters of complaint to the good people at Helen of Troy asking, begging them to bring the good stuff back. Let's all keep trying, they'll bring it back... They've got to, right?

Oh my god, what a relief to find this forum! The new formula just popped up here in the D.C. area a few weeks ago and it is horrible (What can they be thinking???).
Thank you so much to everyone who has identified sources for buying the original formula -- I'm going down first thing tomorrow to stock up at Sally's!!!

I'm so excited!! Thank you so much for the info!! I totally freaked when I tried the new formula-like many of you-not knowing it was NEW. It was awful!! My mother and I went hunting everywhere for the old formula and finally found four at an old grocery store in a small town and paid way too much for them. I was trying to barely use any knowing that one day I would be faced with not having any left. I'm so happy to know I can still buy it. Thank you so much!!

Ok Ladies, the above is the contact I found on the seabreeze products site. I am 46 and have been using seabreeze from the time it came on the market. I have also started many other people women and men using this product. For any of you that didn't know it is very good for sensitive skin razor burn on a mans face. I didn't like the new active so I mixed it with half a bottle of the old that I just snapped off the shelf at wal-mart. I got the last two they had of the old formula.

face feels so much better.I am so greatful to have more.
Posted by: Rhonda at July 14, 2005 12:30 AM
I was also driving all over the state to check stores for the original Seabreeze. I did try the Actives formula which I mistakenly purchased not realizing that the formula was changed. I am 43 years old and do not need an acne formula. My experience was exactly the same as everyone else on this site--I thought the "new" formula was terrible. I threw it in the trash. I should have taken it back to get a refund. I will be checking with Sally Beauty Supply--but beware that the one they carry may not be the original formula. You need to keep your old bottle to double check the ingredients when making a purchase. I find it completely ridiculous that such a product is being taken off the market. They obviously did NO research as to how many people were using the original formula. In the meantime I, too, will write protest e-mails to anyone I can. If by chance anyone out there is able to make their own formula, I would be interested in finding out what you are making it out of. I know someone on this posting said she was a retired pharmacist--maybe you can help us all. I thought I was the only person involved in the "Seabreeze Search".

Thanks for all the info...here's my 2 cents...I am a 51 yr old female w/sensitive fair skin & haven't used Sea Breeze since my teenage yrs...today I bought my 1st bottle of Sea Breeze (sensitive skin) because I wanted to try a different toner & it was on sale 2 for 1 @ Walgreens...little did I know when I typed in the website address for a little info that I would be reading about a major Seabreeze change...after reading all of the above comments, I do not plan to buy the actives formula but will return to Walgreens, buy out the other bottles of sensitive skin formula & visit Sally's...Also,I am glad to know all the other uses of Sea Breeze re: sunburn, mosquito bites, razor burn, etc...again thanks for the updated info...

i'm a 23 year old male... I used original sea breeze in combination with neutrogena oil free acne wash and OXY benzoyl (sp?) peroxide and it completely eliminated my acne. The formula change is a huge disappointment. Good to know I'm not the only one who loved the old product and wants it back.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I have looked EVERYWHERE for the ORIGINAL Seabreeze formula and NO LUCK! But, thankfully I landed on this web site while trying to fing a seabreeze site that worked so I could complain. I HATE THIS NEW STUFF! My face has not been the same since and my 12 year old son hates it also. He said he might as well not wash his face if he is going to use that new stuff because it just made it feel dirty. I agree. Anyway thanks for the other web sites and the info about Sally's. On my way to Sally's in the morning :)!

Oh my gosh, all of you have expressed exactly what I have been feeling for the month. I just found out about the new Sea Breeze and I too HATE IT! Yes, it feels sticky on my face. Yes, it feels soapy and heavy. It doesn't burn and make my eyes water like the old stuff did. I have spent the last two days driving the streets of Tulsa, OK looking for original Sea Breeze. I found seven bottles. My husband and I just got back from Washington DC. For some reason we walked into a drug store in Georgetown. At that time I didn't know about the change but had a gut feeling due to the lack of Original Sea Breeze where I regularly shop. Any who, this pharmacy in Georgetown had three, 16 oz bottles! I bought all three and made my husband carry them around... around Georgetown and to all the monuments.... out to eat. we carried those bottles of Sea Breeze for three hours around Washington DC before returning to our hotel room. That's love for a product. I wouldn't cross the street for the new stuff. And did I happen to mention, IT SUCKS!

Thank goodness I found this sight!! I am 25 and have been using sea breeze original for 4 years now. I have mild acne and I am allergic to Salicylic acid!! I have been searching for the original formula and found only 2 bottles. Thanks to this website, I will be heading to Sally's to buy some more. It is good to know that I'm not the only one in this predicament!

Wow. I am in the same boat as most everyone here. I am a 40 year old male and have used sea breeze for over 25 years. I could not believe the change. That one little change is awful. I called the 1-800 number on the back of the bottle and voiced my complaint.
Everyone here needs to make sure they write to the above address, call the number and email to get them to start manufacturing and retailing the original formula. I am heading to Sally Beauty Supply tomorrow to pick some up but it would be so much easier to be able to buy it at the Wal-mart.
I cannot believe they used the excuse that it was done because the original formula was not selling well. I said that was stupid becuase if people weren't buying the old product what would make them consider the new one.
He did tell me about the Sally route but also said it was while supplies last. I hope he was wrong on that part.

The New SeaBreeze is horrible!!!! I am as well a 40 year old male and thought I was the only one in the world that still used it as it was getting increasingly harder to find. Any way we can get the company to view this thread? If you look at http://hotus.com/inv/tranpdf/01_06_05.pdf and view the Helen of Troy's 2005 stockholder's minutes it is apparent that like all large companies the bottom line is the only thing. If no one buys the new less improved Seabreeze - they should go back to the old recipe...
Anyone remember "New Coke"

THANK GOD! i thought i was the only person on the planet who was disgusted by the new sea breeze!!! i'm 15 years old and i've been using original Sea Breeze since i was 10. i'd never had a problem with acne until they quit making original Sea Breeze!! I, as most people, bought the new stuff thinking that it was my old sea breeze, and was outraged by what had happened to my favorite skin care product! The scent is AWFUL, it didn't clean my pores, and it made my face sticky and nasty!! Now the only thing i've been able to find of the old stuff is the sensitive skin formula (which i used to hate because it isn't as strong as the original) and now I'm about to run out!! I've been searching the net for an answer to my problem and came across this site. I'm SO HAPPY that Sally's has it!!! i'm going to buy some A.S.A.P., also i wrote the company an email at info@seabreezeclean.com and i hope the rest of you will to!!! LET'S GET THIS PRODUCT BACK ON THE SHELVES!!!!

Good news!!!! I just called the sea breeze co. with the number listed here and the woman told me that because of customer feed back they are bringing the original formula back in 6 months. Phew, I have been using this product for almost 30 yrs. The gallons at Sallys Beauty still was a slightly different formula. This new company was putting glycerin which is a sugar (sticky)in the new formula. Unless you purchased remaining gallons made by clairol. I went to sallys and returned the gallon. They still had quarts left from clairol. Well 4 quarts will last me 6 months.

Right there with ya'll!!!!
I've been a Sea Breeze fan well...FOREVER!
I just went to the doctors a few days ago and had to go to the pharmacy below to get a prescription. To my surprise...I saw Sea Breeze in the corner! I grabbed all 3 bottles only to realize that these were the original sea breeze bottles from back in the 80's hahahahah! I don't know about the USA but here in Canada Sea breeze went off the market years and years ago! Anyway, I opened the package before I bought the stuff and sure enough...Sea Breeze never let me down...even thought the bottles were probably about 20 years old they still did the trick!!!
Ahhhhh SEA BREEZE!!!

Its nice to know there are others as upset as I am.......I'm sick.....I am 57 years old and have used Sea Breeze for as long as I can remember. People have always commented on my skin and with the new Sea Breeze, I agree with Tami, I may as well use sticky candy. I have looked for but not found any of the old bottles.....but I will keep looking...in the meantime, I will try other products, but nothing will ever replace Sea Breeze....did anyone else ever use it for sunburn...it was the best!!!

6 months!! Are they really going to bring it back!? I miss the original Seabreeze so much!!! Can't stand the Actives...it leaves my face so stick and the Clean and Clear feels like a Chemical Peel. Thanks for the info!!

Oh thank goodness!! I thought I was the only one with sticky face syndrome. I went around asking everyone if my face was sticky or if was just me minutes after i first used it. I had to improvise with witch hazel until I found something that worked. I have been using seabreeze for like 15 years+ and could not find their website either. Thank you for all the helpful info I will complain loud and clear to the new company. In the meantime I hope they fix this sticky situation or I am afraid our beautiful faces will remain in need. I can not find another product that mimicks this nor do I really want to continue wasting money looking for one. Blah!! I wish neutrogena would jump on this since the rest of their products work well.
Good luck all!!

I, too, used Seabreeze most of my life. I finally found out that they were sold to Helena, I know that this is repeat information, but it bears repeating. Even though they discontinued the original formula, they said that they will reconsider making it again if enough people call and complain. Here's their number: 1-800-487-7273, give 'em heck, guys!!

The new Seabreeze Active is the best. I have too used the original Seabreeze but, I like the Seabreeze Active better. I hope this product is around forever. LONG LIVE SEABREEZE ACTIVE!!!!!

I have never mae a post about anything and I'm so delighted to find this forum as I thought I was alone in my Sea Breeze dilemma!
I had to throw out the Actives- it was like putting mouthwash on my face- and the residue was awful. I am 36 and gets loads of compliments on my skin. I have used seas breeze original since I was 15. I found some at the local beauty supply, but no even they are out.
thanks for the 800 number Im ringing in now!

Hello Fellow Avid Sea Breeze Fans!
Happy to have come across this site! I, too have been using sea breeze back in the day....their new line is nothing like the original!
In our collective quest to bring back that tingly nostalgia, I emailed the people at Helen of Troy and they said they are "currently targetting a relaunch of the original formula in 2007"! Yay! It's better than discontinuing it altogether! That stuff is the best!
Posted by: Sandra at October 23, 2005 4:28 PM
Hello again! The e-mail for inquiring about sea breeze is info@seabreezeclean.com. They are very prompt in responding, as well as polite.
I do, like many of you, have no idea why they would discontinue such a great product! I think the yellow on(original formula) was the most popular b/c I remember having a copious supply when it was available. Then there was a green and a blue one which were similarly fantastic. Did anyone use Sea Breeze facial cleansers? There was one called "whipped facial cleanser". It was in a jar and was a light green/blue with a creamy texture....It was awesome!!!!! Once again, thank you Tami for posting this blog! And thank you to everyone else also for sharing your comments! We must protest!:)

THANK GOD I found this forum! I honestly thought I was the only one that worshipped the original formula of Sea Breeze Astringent. I have been using Sea Breeze Original for over 20 years. I am 38 and have always received compliments on my skin and I've always been told how much younger I look when I tell them my age.
I too accidentally purchased the "Actives", not noticing the new name, etc and when I used it, I felt so icky, sticky and just overall gross that I had to wash it off with soap and water right away. I gave the bottle to my teenage daughter and even she hated it and has never used sea breeze before! (And they are targeting teens with this new line? MISTAKE.)
I wrote the email address info@seabreezeclean.com with a huge complaint about this issue. I hope they bring our beloved product back as soon as possible. I'm desperate here. I have less than half a bottle left and nowhere in the southwest can one find it! Stores are OUT. I have a Sally's here so I will check it out tomorrow and pray that they carry the gallon jug. Could care less on how much it costs, I just need the original formula back!
Thanks all! :-)

I think your product is great
Posted by: ambrie at October 30, 2005 5:35 AM
Hi Lora,
We all know how you feel about the original sea breeze! Yup, the new formulas are garbage! Anyway, I am sure you will be able to pick up gallons at Sally's. I e-mailed the people at info@seabreezeclean.com and they responded saying they will continue to sell the old stuff thru Sally's. Just in case they are not available at Sally's in your hometown, go to medichest.com, medshopexpress.com,drugstore.com(they do not have the original on the new "Sea Breeze" product menu), so type it in and they have 10oz. formulas still in stock. There are also other websites which sell the original, just type in sea breze original formula in the seach engine and you'll find alot of places. Another plus is that you are in the States, so shipping is not a problem. All the best of luck! Long live Sea Breeze original! I, too, hope they bring it back, it was so good, so versatile, yet inexpensive with that tingly feeling that literally made the skin glow! Unlike the garbage that is available on the market today, they suck!!

Holy Cow!!! I had no idea everyone else was as deperate as I was to find the original formula. I thought maybe they had just stopped selling it at my local stores. But after I found this website I see that it is a country-wide problem. I appreciate the info. I too emailed info@seabreezeclean.com and put in my 2 cents. And I am on my way to Sally's bright and early in the morning. I started using a Clean and Clear product and it is not doing the trick. My face just doesn't feel clean and I have acne for the first time in years. They can't bring it back quick enough for me!!!!

I to have been using seabreeze original formula, since I was 19/20 I am 49 now and I hate the new stuff, it does not smell the same or make my face have that clean feeling, I am going out this weekend to the flea market to see if they have any of the good stuff(original). I will not be buying any more of the "actives" after using seabreeze for nearly thirty years, they should/must go back and make the original stuff again. Some things do not need to be changed!
Posted by: Jimbo at November 4, 2005 9:18 PM
Found this site looking for the original seabreeze formula and the seabreeze website. I don't understand why the company wouldn't keep producing the original formula and also make the new products. I don't even want to try the new stuff, just from what I hear from you guys saying it makes your face feel sticky. I started using clearisil to clean my face but the pads leave a residue that I can feel on my skin (I think this may be what you'll are refering to when you say the actives product makes ur face sticky) When I was about 13 I asked my barber what it was he was using on my hairline after he'd cut my hair because it always made my forehead feel clean and fresh. He said it was seabreeze and I went to find it in the store and have been using it ever since. I'm only 22, so I haven't been using the product as long as most of you, but cleaning my face with seabreeze is a twice daily ritual 4 me. I wear dredlocs and I also use it from time to time to clean my scalp or as a preshampoo...its great 4 that 2. I'll check out a few Sally's this weekend and stock up on the original formula and try 2 wait it out since they now have a notice on the website that says they're trying to get it back in stores by 2007. http://seabreezeproducts.com/

I just recieved an email from Sea Breeze and guess what. They are going to bring back the original formula to retail. Here's the text of the email:
Dear Loyal Sea Breeze Original and Oily Skin User:
We have received several inquiries from users of Sea Breeze Original formula who have asked us to bring back the Original that has given them great skin over the years.
The Good news is weve heard you, and were working on it.
Further Good news, we are releasing the remaining inventory from our warehouse to www.drugstore.com, which will have Sea Breeze Original Astringent available while supplies last at $4.99. For orders over $25.00, the shipping is free.
Now, a little not-so-good-news. Producing and re-distributing the Original Formula is going to take a while. We hope and expect to be on shelves by 2007. Until then, we hope this news will allow you to stock up and plan for your skincare needs.
Thank you for your commitment to Sea Breeze Original. We want you to know you've been heard, and were responding as quickly as we can.
Meanwhile, we urge you to keep in touch. You can always reach us through the Sea Breeze website at www.seabreezeclean.com.
--------------------------------
WOW! Good work to all those that went the extra mile and complained. It actually worked. I have been nuying at Sally's which has a really good price but to know it can be picked up retail makes me feel much more comfortable that I will hopefully be able to use this product until the day I die.

I'm happy to see and hear that you all feel the same way about this issue. I thought I was the only one who hated this new, poor-excuse-of-a-product called Actives that also left my skin sticky and broken out. I just called the 1800 number and they really couldn't care less with their attitude. I gently asked for a refund, and was told that they don't do that, that I should take it back to the store..I now send an email and hopefully that will solve the problem...Thanks for the info on this website...

41 year old male here, been using Sea Breeze since 1978. up until this week I have been lucky enough to find a bottle here and there with no indication or news that it was discontinued Months ago! My luck has ran out I sent my better half to find some if she could and she came back with a Nice purple bottle , turquoise and original yellow color of the New Coke for me to try ( shes all about the New and improved ) Obviously theres no need even to comment on what my reaction is. my question is this is the Stuff on the net in gallon size that says for scalp the same as My trusty old skin tingling ( yes even after allmost 30 years ) , leave you feeling clean ( not sticky ) recipe?
Please help

To "Greasy Pores",
I think it is pretty much the exact same thing as the tingly Sea Breeze face astringent. I use the gallon size stuff, too and it also gives the exact same tingly feeling, smells exactly the same and the ingredients are identical with peppermint, clove, camphor, eucalyptus. eugenol and alcohol. It even says on the bottle/gallon that it is good to use on oily skin. In my opinion, that is the best way to use it as opposed to the new "gunk" (actives) they introduced! Also, they have the Sea Breeze toners (Original Formula) at www.drugstore.com. Hope this helps!

A couple beauty supply places carry "ORIGINAL SEA BREEZE" in gallon bottles--for $25. It looks the same but has a slightly different smell and I don't seem to get that same crisp feeling, but it is better than nothing! (No, it is not ACTIVES-that crap is the worst!!) Has anyone else bought the gallon size?? Comments, please!
Posted by: SUE at February 8, 2006 2:51 PM
I currently havr the gallon sizes as well, since I live in Canada, I cannot get the facial toners(thru drugstore.com or any of the other sites which carry them). I find it is almost the same but a little stronger than the Sea Breeze toners that I used religiously back in the day. That one seemd to moisturize pretty well, so does this one but it can be quite drying and has a very strong alcohol smell. That said, I only use this one a couple of times per week. I hope they come out with the Original soon! Oh and another thing=I use to use the Whipped Facial Cleanser(it was light green) and it was wonderful! Has anyone on this post ever used it?
Posted by: Samantha at February 10, 2006 10:03 PM
Thank you thank you for the info on this website. I would not feel clean without my Sea Breeze Original. I also have tried the other Actives Sea Breeze and dislike the smell and the sticky feeling that it gives me. I have just ordered Sea Breeze original from drugstore.com. Thanks again.

I had contacted the maker of Sea Breeze months ago and just got this cheery response saying they needed to try new products and WERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL. I responded that was pretty silly, how about doing away with the new one and just putting the good one back on the shelves. How to bring back the original??? How hard would that be? A friend introduced this stuff to me in my teens, and I'm in my 50s now and have used it all these years, my skin loves it and I even use it as a splash to cool off in hot weather. I told them you clearly had a product millions of folks loved since it's been out there for eternity, it really is a case of if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The new versions either stink or are leave your skin feeling tacky. I found a couple of bottles of the original by magic, but am almost out. It WAS made by Clairol at one time, not sure who puts it out now, but you can't find anywhere to write anymore. Hopefully that means lots of us are squawking about this!

I too am in the same boat as all of you....However, my husband found a phone number (he uses SeaBreeze as well) and they were able to tell him where to buy the original formula - Sally's Beauty Supply. My husband immediately went to Sallys' Beauty supply and lo and behold they had 3 different size bottles of The orginial formula of SeaBreeze. I hope this helps all of you - I too have been using SeaBreeze for over 20 years and do NOT like the new formula or any other Astringent for that matter....

It is so great to hear that I am not alone! I am so obsessed with this stuff. It is actually a product that I can't live without- as silly as that sounds. I haven't used Sea Breeze since I was a teenager. I'm now 38. About three weeks ago, I bought the original formula in my pharmacy in Jamaica, NY. The bottle did change and the website does not exist. I haven't tried the telephone number. I haven't noticed anything different. It's not the "Active" brand. Perhaps, you should go to a small pharmacy or ask them to order it for you. You'd be surprised as to what you can find in small pharmacy shops.
Posted by: Dalia at March 21, 2006 11:38 PM
I've used the original formalu Seabreeze for 20 years and was very disappointed in this crap that they are trying to replace it with. I'm going to miss the crisp cool feeling it gave me whenever I cleaned my face. What the hell are these companies thinking? You can't replace the original - it's the best. I may try Clean and Clear but I don't think that will work either. Then it's back to using soap and water.
Posted by: C. Pearce at March 27, 2006 9:07 PM
I too have been using Seabreeze, the Original for the last 30 years and find myself in the same boat. I've taken the above postings and sen them to the company that makes Seabreeze advising they may want to reconsider as it looks as if they've lost a lot of very LONG time customers.
Posted by: Evelyn at April 10, 2006 2:36 PM
So glad I found this website while searching for Sea Breeze in Victoria, Canada. I am 65 years old and I used the authentic original Sea Breeze in California when it had the blue and white logo and was clear not yellow. There must be more people out there about my age who have used it. It was an outstanding product then until Clairol took over. The yellow Sea Breeze by Clairol is not the same and feels like a diluted version of the first original. I would love to know who formulated the very first Sea Breeze. Helen of Troy seems to be listening to loyal customers of Sea Breeze, please write them and request that you want the pure authentic Sea Breeze without any added coloring.

Can't believe how disappointed I am with the new Sea Breeze actives. Luckily I found a bottle of the old Sea Breeze-Sensitive Formula(blue square-ish bottle at a local pharmacy). It is absolutely amazing...It is just like the original formula but contains glycerin for moisture. It really is wonderful. I thought the Actives stuff for sensitive skin would be the same, boy was I wrong! It was absolutely disgusting and sticky!! I miss the original!!! Fortunately, though, I have 3 big bottles from sally's. Can't wait until they put it back on the shelves, its about time! They should realize Sea Breeze was an amazing product, versatile, and used by many including people on this message board. Thanks again Tami, for this blog! You rock!

You can still buy Original Sea Breeze at
www.drugstore.com.
It's a bit pricy, but available.
I agree, the actives formula is sticky from the Salicylic Acid they put in it. Virtually every astringent out there has this acid except for the sensitive skin formula, which does not have that wonderful tingle-cooling affect.
Posted by: Julie at May 31, 2006 12:41 PM
Sea Breeze is also available at www.cosmticmall.com-they ship internationally. Julie, I totally agree iabout it being abit pricey but well worth it.
Posted by: Samantha at June 2, 2006 8:19 PM
Oops, I meant www. cosmeticmall.com.
Posted by: Samantha at June 2, 2006 8:21 PM
It was great to find this site & all the info on SeaBreeze. My barber told me it's the best aftershave you can use. I like the oily skin formula best -- that strong peppery feeling followed by a nice cool down. And I stopped getting ingrown hairs on my neck.
My wife started having trouble finding SeaBreeze last year and now the "Actives" formula is all we can get locally. Like most here, I don't care for it.
www.drugstore.com only has the original formula (no oily version) and cosmeticmall.com no longer lists SB at all.
Can't wait til they get the new batch in the supply chain. 2007 is still a long way off!
Posted by: David G at June 9, 2006 6:05 PM
Thank God for Google! Seems as though I have been suffering in silence for far too long now, unaware of the original formula cult! Like alot of others here, I tried the new stuff and proclaimed it to be crap. Thanks for all the great information.
Posted by: Shue at June 10, 2006 3:53 PM
Prior to posting cosmeticmall.com, I received an e-mail from the people at Helen of Troy in response to the SB original formula. They told me it was available(they had "also pertnered up with cosmeticmall"), I checked it out, but did not purchase it yet. They also said it would only be sold in the US. I live in Canada, but luckily there is a Sally's here where I can purchase SB. I just don't understand why they will not market the rest, like the the original cleansers, etc. The new clay/Actives stuff is awful. I mean professional make-up artists swear by SB original, as do many loyal customers, but they seem to not understand that. Good thing is that at least the original will be sold in stores in 2007, so I shouldn't complain all that much. Like I've said before many times, Thank god for this blog!!

Hi all,
I also live in Canada and haven't been able to find Sea Breeze of any kind in years and years. I'm currently in Halifax (originally from Toronto) - there's no "Sally's" here - I've never heard of it. Does anyone know if they ship via net orders? I'd love to be able to get SB once again! Thanks, all.

Hi Judy,
Sally's does not ship via internet. But the origina FORMULA FOR SKIN AND SCALP IS AVAILABLE AT WWW.EBONYLINE.COM, AND GOLDENMARTBEAUTYSUPPLY.COM. The original face astringent may be also available on ebay, if certain websites do not ship outside the US. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Just some additional info for those who live near a Sally's Beauty Supply..At this moment they have a promotion on the Seabreeze Original. It's sold in three sizes: 12oz for 5.99 with one dollar off coupon, 32oz for 12.99 with 2.50 dollar off coupon, and the gallon for 30 dollars. Hope that helps! I got the 32oz the other day, and boy, does it feel good to be home again!

Original Sea Breeze seems to be available at "drugstore.com"
Posted by: John at June 19, 2006 7:38 PM
I wasn't aware that the original formula was d/c as I had stocked up on 32oz bottles on a big sale a year ago. I just recently fell for the imposter Actives crap and have been so disgusted by the sticky, oily residue and bad smell. I have been using original Sea Breeze for 30 years and have loved it for all the reasons listed here. It is a cure all that I would bathe in if I could and nothing else can match the fresh, tingling clean feeling of the original. I'm so glad to stumble on this site and will attempt an online order next! Hoping you all get your fix and the Origninal returns soon.

Tami: Love your cute website. I thought you and your fans would like to know about my ongoing battle with Helen of Troy regarding the changes to the formula of our much-beloved Sea Breeze Original Formula. I was not pleased with the response I got over the phone last year from the operators at the Helen of Troy 'customer comments' line. So, in August, 2005, I wrote a letter to the CEO (Gerald Rubin), the Sr. VP of Manufacturing (Donald Hall), and the Sr. VP at Idelle Labs (Jack Jancin). In it I told them how revolting "Sea Breeze Actives" was and how I hoped they would give us back our original formula Sea Breeze. I told them how, when my dad was in the hospital recovering from open heart surgery, he had the nurses scrub his back, neck, and legs with Sea Breeze since he couldn't shower. It comforted him greatly. Besides that, I had used the product since the seventies and was disgusted by the fact that they would change a product so beloved by so many people! "If it ain't broke - don't fix it!", right??
Not only did they all ignore the letter, when I followed up on it through the Better Business Bureau of El Paso, Texas (where the company's executive offices are located), this lady named Sylvia Macias, "Supervisor", responded through the BBB that they never got my letter. Well, what I failed to mention in my letter to the BBB was that I sent the letters to Helen of Troy via Fedex and that I have proof of the day and minute they were signed for; and the letter to Idelle Labs was sent via certified return receipt (US mail), and I have the signature of the person who signed for it.
What that tells me is that the company is unconcerned, even to the point of denying complaints (or not bothering to check to see if they were received)...that's pretty bad when 3 executives get direct complaints and blow them off. Please, Tami...post this email so that people can make their comments heard. I guess Helen of Troy is too arrogant or too stupid to realize they make more money when they give their customers what they want!!! As for the blogger who claims they are re-introducing the old formula Sea Breeze, I don't think that's right because they would have mentioned that in their response to my BBB complaint.

If enough people WRITE (not email - they are apparently deleted....not call the customer comment line - that is just a way to fool people into believing they give a hoot because obviously those calls are ignored). If they can afford to, they need to write and send the letters "certified return receipt" and to keep the receipt when it comes in the mail. That's the only way to prove that you have complained. They, if they don't respond within a reasonable time, complain to the Better Business Bureau of El Paso (www.bbbelpaso.com) or BBB of El Paso

Newsflash: Great news! Helen of Troy is indeed going to reintroduce original formula SEA BREEZE in 2007. Hooray! I have it in black and white in a letter from the company's director of skincare marketing. Too bad it took a year and the intervention of the Better Business Bureau, but at least we'll have our old friend back on the shelves...hopefully in just a few months. Good work out there to all the other consumers who spoke up. Tami, keep up the good work, too!

Thanks for all the great news, I too suffer from the turmoil of this product being different. I have used SB original for 15 years and never had any skin problems. I am now thirty and have zits!!! I hope they get the show on the road soon. I hate the new version and I am ready to be clean again!!

Hi all,
I just received a message from the marketing director at Helen of Troy saying that Sea Breeze "is a 100 years old" and they also gave alot of resons to use Sea Breeze! It is EXTREMELY refreshing to hear and know they are reintroducing the original formula!!!! I've said it may times before and I'll say it again--Sea Breeze was the best for everything under the sun and so simple. It's about time!!! Thank you all, once agin for this blog, especially Tami. It is also good to know that these people listened to us who have knowledge and experience with the original formula. That Actives stuff is a joke beyond comprehension. I mean with the "New Coke" fiasco, that was pulled after about 2-3 months because consumers were disgusted with the product. I am so happy the original is coming back, as nothing compares to that tingly feeling!

Sea Breeze Actives sort of came sneaking up on me about two months ago. I was NOT happy with how my face felt when I used it. But, I needed SOMETHING, so I used it twice. First thing I knew, my face was looking better...... I was a little surprised since it feels so awful on my skin. But, it sure seems like the next day after I use it, I have better looking skin. I can't tolerate it more than about 2 times per week because it feel so sticky. I think I want the original formula, but maybe I could deal with this now and then to help clear up breakouts. Then again, with original formula, I might not GET breakouts!!
Thanks for all this information. I hope original returns very soon :)

Well...I gave up. LOL I went to Sally and bought a gallon bottle of original Sea Breeze. The other stuff was maybe "okay" for some things but my skin felt sticky. Long Live Original!

After buying most of products out there looking for a Sea Breeze substitute, I have stumbled on an astringent that from experience is 99.9% the same as the Original Sea Breeze Astringent for everyone who seems to be waiting for its reintroduction.
It is a Biore product called "Biore Pore Perfect Triple Action Astringent" that is oil free. It is mint green in color and is kind of pricey at $7.49 for a 8.5 fl oz bottle, and is carried by CVS Pharmacy.
One might be able to find better prices with a web search for the product.
So look no longer, if you are willing to change brands, this one will not disappoint you, and not leave you with the sticky skin disappointment we all have seemingly experienced.

Hi all,
Just wanted to let the viewers on this board know that if you are in Canada, you can order SB Face Astringent on Ebay from uniquesportsaccessories.com. I ordered it a couple of months ago. Here are the details:
+ it cost $5.10(US)plus shipping
and handling;
+ 295ml(10 fl.oz.) size bottle;
+ Clairol formula (as stated on the label, 1997);
+ Is bluish/greenish in colour(states it is for oily skin).
Hope this helps! Take care.

BEWARE when buying the gallon size bottle of Sea Breeze. "ACTIVES" also comes in the gallon size and IT IS NOT LABELLED with the word ACTIVES--only the SEA BREEZE label and logo. Imagine my surprise when I realized I had bought a whole gallon of that crap!!! EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

Hi again,
Just wanted to let you all know that I recently went on ebay and uniquesportsaccesories.com was not listed anymore. However, I went to the website and they still have the original SB and the original one for oily skin(the bluish/green one which I mentioned on this board), they also carry the foaming face wash. They are all priced at $5.10US. Further, they did not mention int'l shipping rates, as one has to call the number on the website and ask for the approximate cost. I hope this helps also.

The reason I am giving the Wal-Mart info. is that I spoke with a svc. rep. at the Helen of Troy company and she said that they tried to get the Original Sea Breeze back on the shelves of their retailers, but it was refused by the retailers because they wanted to concentrate on newer and bigger launches. If we let the retailers know how much we want the product back on the shelves, maybe someone will listen. The Helen of Troy svc. rep. said that Wal-Mart was a good retailer to start with; since they have over 3000 stores nationwide and they have a reputation of listening to their customers.

Whoever posted Biore's triple action astringent was 99% like SB original, is a bit mistaken. The ingredients in Biore contain Disodium EDTA which is not good for you and its nothing more than witch hazel and alcohol, which would be much cheaper to make yourself.
Active Ingredients: Salicylic Acid 2% (Acne Treatment)
Inactive Ingredients: Water, Alcohol Denat, Isopropyl Alcohol, Hamamelis Virginiana Water (Witch Hazel), Glycerin, Alcohol, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Hydroxide, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance, Yellow 5, Blue 1

Thanks for the word on Sally's carrying the original Seabreeze. I found a few bottles.
When is the original Seabreeze coming back? It's summer time and I use Seabreeze for mosquito bites, cleaning my face, etc.I've used Seabreeze nearly 40 years. These new formulas are awful.

After reading all the comments here, I went to Sally Beauty Supply and bought a small bottle of the supposed "original" formula. IT IS NOT THE ORIGINAL FORMULA....the peppermint oil is gone, and glycerin is added, which leaves a sticky feel almost as bad as the Actives formula!! (I happen to still have a bottle of the REAL original formula, which I have been nursing for years!) :) So, I guess it's off to drugstore.com for me...I checked a few weeks ago and they still had some....I hope they still do!
Meanwhile, I am definitely going to use the information gleaned here to write some forceful-sounding letters. ;-)
(Sorry if this posted twice...I did "preview post" and then didn't find any way to go ahead and post, so I did it again.)
Posted by: Annie at July 10, 2007 12:42 PM
I repeat. IT IS NOT THE ORIGINAL FORMULA!!!
Just wanted to make sure everyone noticed. :-)

Ok, I emailed the Sea Breeze company, received a nice reply from Laureen, who posted above. She said she welcomed our help in getting Wal-Mart to start carrying the original formula again, so I went to the place mentioned above by someone and left a message. Meanwhile, I'll be ordering some online to tide me over.
I've noticed that most of the posts here are from a couple of years back, so I'm wondering if the original formula may already be showing up in some stores. I looked a few months ago at Wal-Mart, but haven't looked very recently. Has anyone else seen any at a retailer? (Sally Beauty Supply does not count...as I said before, IT IS NOT THE ORIGINAL FORMULA!) lol

Hi again, all!
Woah. I'd stick with drugstore.com and uniquesportsaccessories.com for the ORIGINAL Sea Breeze. I just wish, like everyone else on this board that the original be braught back!!! Its been too long already!!!!LOL! Seriously though, Sea Breeze had been around forever and worked like a charm (my grandparents always had bottle sof sea breeze for bug bites, cleaning skin, etc)!!! Even celebrities back in the day wore sea breeze because it prevented blemishes hence it worked amazingly as a makeup primer, as well as an astringent. Makeup artists swore by this stuff!!! This stuff needs to be braught back!! In the meantime, though, thank goodness for drugstore.com and uniquesportsaccesories.com!!

Hi all,
This is just an update-especially for those of you in Canada...I checked ebay and UniqueSportsaccesories.com delivers to Canada and they have the original Sea Breeze Toner/astringent, along with the original cleanser; not the "new formulated"version. Just wanted to lt you guys know. I know this is frustrating--After Helen of Troy saying that that they are going to bring back the original, then saying Walmart wouldn't accept it due to shelf space or whatever, is annoying. As I and many of you on this blog have mentioned exhaustively, this stuff is the best!! Good thing there are other "outlets".

Tami thank you for this website. I purchased about four - 1 gal containers of the original prior to the 2005 switcheroo. So I just recently realized that the product at Sally's in 1 gal was no longer the original. Label is the same. I won't buy the new formulation as it smells like the sensitive skin product which never cleaned anything.
I'm wondering if any of you are able to find the 1 gal container anywhere? Please advise me if you have been able to locate it.
Else, my husband is going to take a sample and run it through the GC at work to get a chemical proportion analysis and make it special for our family. He is a chemist. All the ingredients are easy to obtain. It's simply a matter of knowing the rough proportions and experimenting with mixtures.

Hi Felicia,
I think you can get the original Sea Breeze (12 oz. and 32oz.) from texasbeautysupplies.com. Or try amazon.com and ebay. Hope this helps. Take care.

Hi again,
Just wanted to say that i cannot believe Helen of Troy did not reintroduce the original like they said they would!! My Goodness, this stuff was the best and customers are still complaining about the new formula-just check out drugstore.com.! At least they have the Original in stock there (the one with peppermint oil, not salicylic acid and glycerin).

I'm another long-time seabreeze fan, and I also greatly miss this excellent product.
I finally got around to trying a product suggested upthread by Tami back in May 2005, "Thayer's Medicated SuperHazel," and I finally have a substitute that does the trick.
As Tami noted in her original post on Thayer's SuperHazel, the ingredient list is very, very similar to original Seabreeze: Witch Hazel, Peppermint Oil, Camphor, Calendula, Eucalyptus, Clove Oil, Aloe Vera, and denatured alcohol.
Here's a link to their site with the page for this product:
http://www.thayers.com/store/index.php?main_page=
product_info&cPath=3&products_id=12&zenid=679b562
bfa0e01b0a8ece506d5a3863c (I've split up the link into three parts - cut, paste and remove the spaces)
And good news for my fellow Canadians...this product is available in health food stores in Canada. I picked up my bottle of Thayer's SuperHazel at Whole Foods in Toronto.

I've been ordering Original Formula from Drugstore.com for the past 2 years. I visited the site tonight and found it is now NO LONGER AVAILABLE. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! However, I am so relieved to know there are so many like me who DESPISE the Actives formula not knowing what it was. Just checked Amazon.com & WalMart.com and can't find it. I don't want to chance Sally Beauty because of previous comments that it's not the original formula. I'm 48 and have been using it for 35 years. I've tried Sensitive Skin, Witch Hazel and a few others. NOTHING COMES CLOSE.

I phoned Drugstore.com and it is confirmed, no more Sea Breeze original.I also phoned Helen of troy and revieved the "who cares" attitude mentioned above.
What about a Email, phone call campain to make sure Helen of Troy get hammered with complaints ?
or possibly a website or online petition

Man, oh man!! I can't believe it!! even drugstore.com is out of the original SB??!! Did anyone try Cosmeticmall.com? They may have some bottles left; when i checked about a month or so ago, they did. Also try uniquesportsaccesories.com. They had (and hopefully) still have the the greenish-blue one for oily skin made by Clairol. Also they might be available through ebay. Uniquesportsaccessories.com is based in New Jersey, I think. Since it is not as popular as drugstore.com, maybe you will have some luck.
On another note, I am really, really upset with Helen of Troy! I understand what all of you are feeling and thinking!! They should have just brought back the original as planned--well now that drugstore.com is out of SB, hopefully Helen of Troy will reconsider...I also heard they acquired Clairol Condition 3-in-1 products, but haven't seen any yet.

Tami, thank you so much for this website! I like others found the somewhat close but not the "real" original formula at Sally's Beauty Supply. At least, it was definitely a vast improvement over the Actives formula. I can absolutely say with 100% confidence that I finally found a supply of the "real" original formula at uniquesportsaccessories.com. From my last communication with the company, they still had over 10 cases of the 10 oz bottles. There are 12 bottles per case. I bought a case and wasn't charged for the shipping and handling. Good luck with your own search everyone and :-p on Helen of Troy!

I am so glad to find this website. Yes, it is ridiculous for a company to change a popular product. And if it must be sold, then the new owner should keep it exactly as it is because that is what people want. Here's my Sea Breeze story; I discovered it at my first job, working in a beauty salon in 1972. It was wonderful for so many things. I bought it on and off over the years and usually bought a big bottle at Sally which would last for years. So when the last of it ran out in spring of 2008, I didn't think anything of going to Sally and buying a quart. Then when I opened it at home, it was obvious the formula had changed...it did not feel the same or smell the same. Reading the label, I noticed it is now made by Idelle labs. DO NOT BUY the Sea Breeze at Sally made by Idelle Labs. It is NOT the original formula. The peppermint oil is missing from the Sally formula and that is a key ingredient. After doing some online research through this site, I found the Original Formula by Clairol at drugstore.com and stocked up on 3 16 oz. bottles. However, even this Original Formula does not smell exactly like the old formula I remember from '72. But yes, now drugstore.com has discontinued carrying the Original Formula. The other poster is correct; Unique Sports Accesories has it, also cosmeticmall.com will have some in October but they are discontinuing it too. It's also available at black online beauty supplies ebonyline.com and texasbeautysupply.com but the bottle in the pic looks different. I would contact them before ordering to make sure it's not the Idelle Labs stuff. For those who would like to try a homemade version, you will need rubbing alcohol or witch hazel and peppermint essential oil. It's easy to find on the internet, possibly even locally. I bought mine from desertdancer.com but lots of other sites sell it. You will need to experiment with how much to add to the rubbing alcohol or witch hazel. Add peppermint oil by the DROP!!! The peppermint oil is what give the "tingle" and you don't want too much of a good thing! When it's adjusted to your personal preferences, write down your "recipe" so you can make it again. If you're stuck with a big bottle of Idelle from Sally, a little peppermint oil can improve it a bit. Hope this helps some people! And keep nagging the companies to bring the good stuff back and keep it back!

Another Sea Breeze user for 27+ years... Amazing there is so much devotion for this product and they still won't bring it back. You'd think they'd do it for the sheer capitalistic benefit- nevermind service to loyal customers. I say "Sam" has the best idea (9/10/07). Let's get what few drops we have left chemically analyzed and reproduce it under a new name. "Ocean Air"? We can all invest in the start up and get rich. Or at least share the formula- and sources for the ingredients so that we can manufacture our own.
Posted by: Sherri at October 21, 2008 12:29 PM
I too was a faithful seabreeze user and was very disappointed when I found out that they had discontinued their old formula. Was able to get if off of drugstore.com for a while - no longer available from here. But I just ordered some from amazon.com they have 3 - 16 oz. bottles for about $21 plus shipping. Yes, I paid more than normal, but I love this product and if this is the only way to get it - so be it. I may also try the clean and clear as suggested above.
