What Looks Like Crazy ...
I just finished reading What Looks Like Crazy On An Ordinary Day by Pearl Cleage. Mrs. Cleage wrote plays, essays and columns, but this was her first book. As far as I can tell, since this, she has written at least eight more books. I will now be on the lookout for those!
I picked this up at a book sale. What got my attention was “Oprah’s Book Club” embossed on the front cover. I figured if Oprah liked it enough to endorse it, then it must be good … and it was. I enjoyed it from start to finish.
It is about a woman named Ava Johnson who is living with AIDS. She returns back home to visit with her sister before traveling on to San Francisco when things begin to happen. She meets many people in the community and discovers how much she missed her home.
I love the way that Mrs. Cleage describes things. From the way that Ava eats a tomato to the wildflowers near the lake – it is all good. She makes it feel like home.
