OCC

I am very proud that our church participates in Operation Christmas Child each year.

This program collects shoeboxes worldwide filled with Christmas presents and then distributes them to children in desperate situations. Gospel tracts in the child’s own language are added to each box.

We put things like notepaper, pens, a mirror, bowls, dolls, yo-yo’s, a recorder, a chalkboard, chalk, and more in each of our boxes. It was fun picking things out and knowing that a child somewhere will appreciate each item and it will make their Christmas more meaningful.

This was after church this morning:

The gifts stretch all the way from one side of the stage to the other. It’s an amazing sight to behold. The goal was to collect 450 boxes. I hope we reached it!

That's awesome! Our church does something similar; we have a Christmas tree set up in our church lobby which the kids at church decorate with paper angels they have colored. On each angel is the name of a child in need and some things they'd like to have for Christmas. People at church pick angels and buy the presents and bring them back to church to send off to the families. It blesses my heart to see the empty tree within a week or two of its being put up.
By the way, did you know about the angel tree in Fayette Mall? It's not really a tree, but a table stacked with cards; on each card is a child's name and what they want for Christmas. They usually set it out around this time of year. I haven't bought for one of these children in a couple of years (sometimes these kids ask for bikes and expensive computer games and frankly, we can't always afford things like that) but I'm thinking about buying for a child again this year. It's such a wonderful opportunity to share God's love with others.

We do the angel tree at church too. I think it starts soon! Also, they do an angel tree at Ashley’s school.
