Sad Song

Has anyone heard the Hinder song Lips Of An Angel? Here are the lyrics:

Lips of An Angel
By: Hinder

Honey why are you calling me so late
It’s kinda hard to talk right now
Honey why are you crying is everything okay
I gotta whisper cause I can’t be too loud
Well, my girls in the next room
Sometimes I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on
It’s really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak
And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

It’s funny that you’re calling me tonight
And yes I’ve dreamt of you too
And does he know you’re talking to me
Will it start a fight
No I don’t think she has a clue
Well my girls in the next room
Sometimes I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on
It’s really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak
And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

It’s really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak
And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel
(And I never wanna say goodbye)
But girl you make it so hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel
Honey why are you calling me so late

***

As you can see it’s about a guy who’s ex is calling him on the phone. The guy is clearly involved in a relationship, however, it is also clear that he still thinks of her – the ex.

I heard this song on the radio twice today. The first time when I heard the first few lines, I thought it was going to be a sweet “I miss you” type of song, but then (in my mind anyway), it turned sour very quickly.

The second time I heard it, I turned it up so I could make sure I was getting the gist of it. Sure enough, I was.

Why would anyone want to sing along to a song like this? To me, it’s just depressing to the max. Maybe I’m sensitive because of some issues surrounding someone I know. I do know that I would never want to be that poor woman in the next room who doesn’t have a clue her boyfriend (or husband) is having adulterous thoughts.

The guy has a great voice, but the song makes me sad.

Eww, I HATE that song. Like you, I thought at first that it was sweet, but when I really listened to the lyrics, it made me sick. When I heard Dewey singing along with it one day, I wanted to smack him silly. I asked him if he really knew what the song was about, and apparently he didn't have a clue. I told him it was about a guy secretly in love with his ex and talking to her on the phone while his wife/girlfriend is in the other room and has no idea. He said he'd never paid that much attention, he just liked the tune and the way the guy sings. I gave him a tongue-lashing over it ( I guess I'm overly sensitive about the song too). Needless to say, he doesn't sing that song around me anymore :P

I'm just the opposite, I love it. If you really look at the video it seems they left things unfinished and the girl is just a rebound. They played in Lex about a month ago, wish I could have went. It was funny because they went to the Wal-Mart in G-town, my niece seen them but could not get near them to get an autograph. Listen to some of their other songs before you give up on them! They are a great up and coming band.

Deanna, I admit I have not seen the video. I do think they have a great sound, so I will listen to more. Their CD has explicit lyrics though, so I wonder how many more songs will get airtime.

Sometimes the videos really tell a great story and fill in the gaps a bit. I've not heard that one. That is really sad, sadder when you think about how many people listening to it can relate to it.
