Not Missing Out
I walked into Andrew’s room looking for dirty clothes and found this instead:

To be frank, it freaked me out at first. I thought, what IS that? I turned it over and then discovered that it had boobs!
I knew Selina, his girlfriend, had to have made this for him, but I wondered why. Is it for him to hold while he’s sleeping and think of her?
I don’t have the answer.
I don’t believe he actually sleeps with it, but I can’t be sure. I really don’t like thinking about it. It’s weird. Have you ever made or received anything of this sort?

Last night Andrew asked me for a shoebox. I found a small one before I knew why he wanted it.
He had hoped to transfer his vast collection of letters to a larger space:

As you can see, his box is overflowing. I have explained to you how I keep cards, but notes are something I didn’t keep.
I kept them for years probably beginning with some as far back as elementary school. Once I turned seventeen, I threw them all away, including pictures of old boyfriends. My mom told me at the time that I would later regret throwing them away, but I really haven’t so far.
The letters were probably silly anyway. Some of the pictures could be interesting, but I don’t remember them enough to miss them. Does that makes sense?

It makes perfect sense to me, mainly because I can't remember anything anyway. If I throw something away, it's out of sight, out of mind. If I happen to come across an old picture or letter from an old friend, I might say to myself, " Oh, I forgot I had this, how nice." As soon as something is put in the garbage, I have no recollection that it ever existed.
As for the weird shirt you found in Andrew's room, I can't say I've ever heard of anything like that, with one exception: I used to babysit a friend's baby and she used to put one of her tee shirts on a teddy bear for him. He would cuddle with the bear and I guess he could smell her scent on it because it comforted him a great deal. Maybe Andrew's shirt has a similar purpose.

I used to keep old birthday cards for a while but I ended up with so many it was getting ridiculous. I made gift tags out of them in the end. I do that with my old Christmas cards too - I keep them until the following year and then used them as gift tags on all the gifts I send. It's a good way to recycle them.

Tell him he can store a lot of letters in a much smaller space if he unfolds 'em and puts 'em in folders or in a notebook. ;)
