Pioneer Festival

This afternoon we went to the Pioneer Festival. This festival showcases the creations of people around Kentucky. There are a lot of crafty things made of wood that I’m not really interested in. I mean no offense at all; I’m just not a crafty/woodsy, country blue sort of person. My sister loves that sort of thing and it looks great at her place, I just wouldn’t want it in my house.

There were many things that I did enjoy looking at though. People had made beautiful hair bows, decorative jackets and sweatshirts, ceramic figurines, hand painted Halloween and Christmas ornaments, personalized signs for your yard or house, candies, candles, hand painted gourds, colorful purses with lots of ribbons and bows and so much more.

There were some incredibly pretty glass decorations:

And I loved these beautiful glass balls:

There was plenty of food to choose from:

I think the best part of the entire festival is the yard sales along the way. If you walk all along College Street, which runs beside the park where the festival is held, there are yard sales at almost every house. People are always friendly and we see people we know at every turn. Dad went with us and we had a good time. I hope to see you there next year!

Those hometown festivals are so much fun! Johnstown, Ohio has a big Swapper's Day weekend, a big flea market. I haven't been to it in years.

My mom has some glass balls like those, amber and clear, very pretty. She has them hanging around her gazebo.

We had a picnic out at the local arboretum today and then went for a drive in the country. We'd love to live out away from town someday, but we won't do that until our house is paid off and it's just the two of us.

I think you need to come to the Ren fest this year. If you like the pioneer festeval you would enjoy the ren fest.

Ellice, although I think we would have fun at the Renaissance Festival it is too expensive for us. The Pioneer Festival is free. We looked around, but we didn’t spend a dime.

Do they have this on the same day every year? I've heard of it before and have wanted to go, but I've never known when it was held.

Stacey, it is always held the Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend.
