Black Swallowtail Butterfly

On September 16th I showed you the following pictures:

Last night the Black Swallowtail Butterfly chose to emerge from his cocooned state. Now you would think I would have seen this butterfly before, but I hadn’t.

Here he is in his entire splendor:

It was just an amazing experience for us to see exactly what God can do:

Keep in mind, we still have two tobacco worms which are cocooned and won’t emerge for probably another 5 months. I guess since this latest caterpillar was so small, he didn’t need long to become the beautiful butterfly he is today.

How wonderful! What has happened to the butterfly now? Will it be able to hibernate safely over the winter?

Liz, I don't know what became of it - only that it flew away. I don't know the lifespan or anything.
