Guest Blog From Parris Island

Andrew wrote me a letter from basic training and said, “How about a guest blog from basic?"

How cool is that?! So the following is exactly what he wrote:

Sunday December 9th

Hello Blog Buddies! In case you don’t know me, my name is Andrew and I’m the son of the wonderful woman you read so much about. I am currently in basic training, Parris Island, S.C. U.S. Marine Corps, which I’m sure if you’re a regular, you know by now.

It’s not bad here. You’ve got the physical training, the knowledge (classes), and the screaming. It takes some getting used to and now I’m great! I actually find it quite enjoyable sometimes.

So far I’ve lost around 15 pounds and am shooting for 25 pounds. That will put my weight at 165. I still can’t believe my dad weighs less! LOL!

Basic Information:

*PT – 3-4 times a week

*Food – 3 squares a day – it’s good!

*Sleep – Usually 8 hours every night

*Free time – 1 hour per night & 4 on Sundays

*Church – is two hours long and very informative and fun

*Bathroom – it’s like going in your front yard during a yard sale

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! God Bless!

If you leave any comments on Andrew’s post, I will print them out and mail them to him.

It's great to read that he is so upbeat and excited about his training. I know it's very hard work! Keep up the good work Andrew!

Wow! You sound very happy, that's great. I expect the screaming is the first thing you react to, but the last thing you get used to?!
As a non American I find this very interesting - keep writing these blogs!

I'm glad to know you're doing so well, Andrew. I've been praying for you and your whole family. Keep up the good work! I'm proud of you!

Glad "basic training" is going well for you and wish you the best. I was hoping to meet you in October when I visited the family but the Marines had other ideas before I got there - another time, another place!
THE FEW, THE PROUD, THE MARINES!

Andrew, I am so glad you're doing good. We have been praying very hard for you and all the men and women that are serving our Country! We really miss you and will be so glad to see you when you get home from basic. If there is anything that I can send to you through the mail let me know. We missed you at Thanksgiving! I was happy to get to meet Christina. She is very pretty and kind. Please be safe and know that we love you. We stand behind our Military and thank GOD for you all everyday! Home is waiting for your return!

Bathroom – it’s like going in your front yard during a yard sale

This observation made me laugh aloud as well as cringe a little. Sounds like the weird bathroom dreams I have sometimes.

It's great to hear from you, guy!
