Older Than Dirt
I love the line in the movie Steel Magnolias when Clairee Belcher, played by Olympia Dukakis says, “Well, you know what they say: if you don't have anything nice to say about anybody, come sit by me!”
I actually think of that line quite often and it came to me again this morning as I looked through a catalog we received in the mail yesterday. This catalog had many cute items; however there were two things which I found downright comical. I can’t help it; I get tickled at certain things. Remember when I showed you the footed pajamas? Not everyone found them quite so funny, but they still crack me up!
If you have ever watched the television show Everybody Loves Raymond, you will find this product funny:

Yes, that is a translucent cover for your couch. Now I ask you; WHY? If you’re going to be that worried about spilling something on it, if it is that expensive; don’t buy it!
Now, this next product is the kicker. I had never seen this before and it totally cracked me up:

Who the heck has time to dress their washing machine and dryer? Most people do good to dress themselves let alone try to dress a machine. This looks like something that would have been on the show Mama's Family. I will just go ahead and say it; this looks like something only old people would like. Really. Old. People.
Do I have a warped sense of humor or what?

I'm with you, I think both of those are ridiculous. I have never even heard of slipcovers for your washing machine and dryer! It would seem more of an inconvenience to me, to have to take those things off and put them back on every time I did laundry. You're right, I do think those look like something "Mama" would have in her house. You are too funny, Tami.

OOOOH, and they have an EXCLUSIVE on those washer/dryer covers. Good for them! They'll corner that market!

Bwaaahahahhahaaa!! My paternal grandparents had those clear plastic furniture covers! In the summer, when I wore shorts and sat on the couch, I'd stick to it and the piping left red lines on my legs. They also had plastic runners on the floor in high-traffic areas.
Now, my maternal great-grandmother had a couple of plastic runners on her carpet, but I was told that's because great-great-grandma Annie was incontinent and couldn't always make it to the bathroom in time.
Those washer and dryer covers...Oh, my. The ruffles are what send me into fits of giggles. They're awful! They should make them camouflage fabric so they'd just disappear altogether.

What gets me is, they assume the appliances are more unsightly than those covers! LOL You're right....Old.
