These Are Dangerous
I don’t recall who sent me the following pictures, but they are very enjoyable.
These are things to do to your coworkers when you’re bored at work.

Fronting
Since getting a job this summer, Andrew has been doing well. I have to admit that he’s someone who wasn’t used to doing work, but adapted quickly to the task. He enjoys stocking shelves and loves helping customers. It pleases him to please others. Isn’t that what life’s all about!
I have to tell you about a strange practice that occurs on a daily basis though. It will sound absurd, but it is the truth.
The managers move things on the shelves.
Now, you’re wondering, “What does that matter?” Well, I’m going to tell you.
Two other Guy Workers besides Andrew have the job of going from shelf to shelf and moving products forward. This is called fronting. For example: if someone buys five cans of beans – there will be a big hole on the shelf where those cans once were. Andrew will take the remaining beans and pull them to the front of the shelf so that it looks pleasing to the eye.
This is an easy job, but one that keeps them busy. Just think about the children who go tearing through the toy isle. Andrew gets to clean up what the little darlings messed up. Tearing through the isles is not limited to the kids though. Only a few days ago, Andrew spotted a woman looking through the bras. Each bra that she did not like, she tossed in the floor. Andrew had to approach her and kindly ask her to please not throw the merchandise on the floor.
You would not think an adult would behave that way, but they do! You also would not think of managers behaving this same way, but they also do! When Andrew started working there, the other Guy Workers warned him about the managers and how after you have just fronted a shelf; they will walk behind you and push the products back again. They will then call you over to chew you out because the products weren’t fronted.
This scenario happened last night.
Guy Worker goes down the paint isle. He fronts all cans of paint and they look great. Guy Worker leaves the isle. She Manager walks down the paint isle and doesn’t know that Andrew is watching her. She Manager pushes the cans back to the back of the shelf and leaves the isle. She calls for Guy Worker to go to the paint isle. She wants to rant over the paint cans. What she does not know is that Andrew went back down the isle behind her and re-fronted the paint. She Manager and Guy Worker arrive at the re-fronted paint. She Manager opens her mouth and points at the re-fronted paint cans. She is just beginning her tirade when she sees the cans, closes her mouth and walks out of the isle. It is fortunate for the Guy Worker that Andrew corrected what She Manager had done or he would have had to stand there and listen to her lecture for nothing.
Unbelievably, this is a common practice at this place. Now, tell me why. Why would you want to go behind your employees, mess up their work, and then yell at them about it? This is the practice of more than one manager, so it’s as if they TRAIN them to do this. I don’t think it’s normal. Have you ever heard of this?

Dim-Witted
We must begin profusely praying for our house. Even though July 4 is not until Monday, the backwater, inbred idiots around me (my neighbors), seem to think they need to initiate the celebrations early. One of the main ways of celebrating seems to be with illegal bottle rockets. Do you think they even have a clue why bottle rockets are illegal – especially in the middle of a neighborhood?
I am surrounded by idiots!

My Waterbabies
I believe that we have already spent more time in the pool so far this summer than we did all last summer. It wasn’t hot enough outside to maintain the heat to keep the water warm enough, so we didn’t use it near as much.
I hope that I’m getting some exercise along with the tan that I now have. Even though I’m not necessarily swimming, I am constantly walking. It is rare that I am ever completely still. The great thing about walking in the pool is, in the pool you can walk on and on forever and your feet don’t hurt! Ha! Ha! I bet you never thought of that!

Old Automaton
It’s raining, thank the Lord! We need this rain so bad. The grass looks terrible and different counties have had to conserve their water use. I hope it keeps up for a while.
We went to Kohls earlier today and I bought three shirts. I tried to find the pictures on their website, but had no luck. I needed something new to wear, so I don’t feel guilty.
Kevin is trying to convince me to buy a new digital camera, but I keep putting him off. I told him that a new camera would make a wonderful Christmas present. I hope he can wait until then. I believe that any camera I would like would be in the neighborhood of $300, so I think we need to wait for now.
If you ever wonder why my pictures aren’t great quality or why I don’t zoom in on things – it’s because of my camera. It’s OLD and can no longer zoom in. What I take is what I get!

We Need Hangers!
For weeks, I have wanted to straighten out Ashley’s Barbie clothes and for some reason today was the day. Kevin mended the torn pieces and I folded them. She has more Barbie clothes than I ever had - and I had a lot!
This picture shows most of the clothes, but doesn’t include all the pieces that are on Barbies:

Sun
What a day! It got up in the 90’s, so we were in the pool all day. I was outside for over four hours. Even though I used sunscreen, you can imagine what my skin looks like. I guess after a few hours it wore off. Oh well, if the weather is nice, we will probably do it all over again tomorrow.

Who Is John Galt?
It took me around twenty-one days to complete Atlas Shrugged. Three weeks is a long time for me to spend on a book, but this one had 1069 pages and the type was about an 8 font (exceedingly small). I plan to keep the remainder of my summer reading light. I’m sure that I’ll read an Agatha Christie or two as well as a few by Sydney Sheldon.
Atlas Shrugged was very thought provoking. In a nutshell, it tells the story of what would happen if the government tried to make all businesses equal. You know, what they would like to have done to Bill Gates. The stupidity of people blows my mind. He created a program, spent his time and money on it, marketed it, and then sold it. He gets the money, he gets rich – end of story. Well, that’s the way it should have been. That is, until people started complaining that he had a monopoly on the market. Give me a break! You make something, spend your money, and then try selling it. If it’s any good, it will sell; if not, you can say that you tried but, don’t get jealous because someone else came out with something that beat what you had all to pieces. We all have to face the facts that businesses are not created equal and shouldn’t be equal. If that ever becomes the case, the economy will start crumbling just as it did in this book.
There is too much story to get into. Just know that it is eye opening.

The Longest Day of Play
A few days ago, I talked about the VERB program and how it aims to get kids outside and moving. Today they sponsored “The Longest Day of Play” at our local high school. They had two different blow-up obstacle courses, hula-hoops, relay races, and much more.
Here is Ashley after going through the obstacle course for the first time:
This is a side view of one of the obstacle courses:
Ashley loves to hula with the hoop around her neck!
She had a GREAT time!

Shelves
We made a trip to my favorite place today – the Friends Book Cellar. I hadn’t been there in months, so I could hardly wait to get inside and start searching the shelves. I keep a book list in my purse at all times of the books I am looking for, so this makes things much easier.
Here are the great gems I found today:
• Nine Stories – by: J.D. Salinger
• Windmills of the Gods – by: Sidney Sheldon
• Are You Afraid of the Dark? – by: Sidney Sheldon
• Tell Me Your Dreams – by: Sidney Sheldon
• Wuthering Heights – by: Emily Bronte
• Lady Chatterley’s Lover – by: D.H. Lawrence
• For Whom the Bell Tolls – by: Ernest Hemingway
It’s not that I needed any new books; but, they are truly my weakness.

Here is Ashley munching on a hotdog. She is wearing the earrings that she ordered from my sister’s jewelry party.
This is the world’s best cheeseburger. What makes it so wonderful is that Kevin made it.

VERB
Last month when I signed Ashley up for the summer reading program at the library, I also signed her up for the VERB program. This is a program for kids aged 9 – 13. The VERB program encourages children to get out and move every day instead of sitting, watching TV, or playing on the computer.
When I signed her up, they gave me a scorecard. This scorecard has 24 squares. Each time that Ashley attends a VERB event or I see her doing an activity, she gets a square filled in. Children who are signed up with this program get to do things free that would normally cost money. For example, I took her to open gym tonight at the gymnastics center. Non-members pay $8 and members pay $5 for open gym. Since Ashley is in VERB, she shows her scorecard to the owner and she gets to go free.
Here are a few shots of the gym:

In the one above, Ashley was in the back on the trampoline.

This shows the other side of the gym. I know it’s hard to see, but I was taking these pictures from the second floor and really didn’t want to be seen!
At the end of the summer, she will get prizes for having her card filled up and she will enter a drawing for one of the grand prizes.
She has enjoyed this program immensely and it has kept her busy. I wish more kids knew about VERB.

Credit
Because of a new federal law, if you live in the U.S., you can go to AnnualCreditReport and get a FREE copy of your credit report. This is totally free – there is no hidden cost. We did it last night and it works.
This is not the same as FreeCreditReport.com. At this agency, if you do not cancel your membership within 30 days, you are billed $12 for each month that you continue membership. Why go here when you can get it free?

Beware: This Gets Yucky!
I believe I have an ingrown toenail. It started bothering me last summer and I have put up with the pain ever since then. About five months ago, my doctor prescribed KFLEX. This didn’t help at all as far as I could tell.
I showed the offending toe to her at my appointment this morning and she said that she wants me to see a foot doctor. I explained to her that I do not want to see a foot doctor for any reason and asked if she would give me a prescription for something different. After telling me it looks like a bacterial infection, she prescribed a drug called Doxycycline. She also made sure that I get an additional refill on the original prescription. I am praying with all of my heart that twenty days of this drug takes this infection away.
Maybe I’m wrong and it’s only an infection and not ingrown. That is my prayer. Kevin had an ingrown toenail several years ago. After living a painful existence, he went to the doctor to have the toenail removed. Guess what! It grew back and became ingrown again!
He finally went to a foot doctor and told him to remove the nail and kill it so that it would never grow back again. That was two or three years ago. The nail has never grown back and he has no more pain.
I just don’t think that I can take it. My doctor told me that she would prescribe me some Valium to take before that appointment (if there needs to be an appointment), but I am scared to death.
Just so you’ll know: I looked up some pictures of ingrown toenails and they look really disgusting. My toe is just slightly pink and swollen-looking on one side. It’s not ugly – not to me at least, but I know something is going on because there is some oozing. I’m trying to stay positive though (I am sticking my head in the sand!) by convincing myself that this is just an infection that can be cured with a simple pill. Please keep me in your prayers.

Never Again!!!
I had noticed a few fleas on Guido here and there. I really had to be looking for them, but they seemed to be rare thank the Lord!
After buying some cheap flea medicine from Wal-Mart which did nothing, a well-meaning person suggested that I use Avon’s Skin-So-Soft to bathe Guido in. She said that the fleas would come right to the surface because the oils in this product wouldn’t allow them any air. I thought this was a fabulous idea!
Last night Kevin gave Guido a bath. First, he used flea shampoo and rinsed him off. Then, together, we used the Skin-So-Soft. It was very oily, but I rubbed it in well on his back and especially his legs. We left it on for a minute, but never saw one flea. We rinsed him off again well with water, took him out of the tub and towel dried him off as usual.
Well, I have to tell you that he was like a greased pig! When I rubbed my hand over his back to pet him, my hand came away looking like I had soaked it in baby oil! My hand was shiny and had little hairs all over it. I told Kevin that we HAD to give him another bath in regular dog shampoo and get that oil out of his hair!
We did just that, but it didn’t help. Oh, maybe it helped a tiny, tiny bit, but not as much as I would have liked. He smells wonderful; you just can’t touch him without having to wash up afterwards. Never again!!!
This whole episode reminded Kevin of years ago when someone (the same well-meaning person) told me that mayonnaise and raw eggs was supposed to make your hair shiny. Against Kevin’s better judgment, I put tons of mayonnaise and a few raw eggs in my hair. I let it sit for a while and then attempted to rinse it out.
The joke was on me! That stuff wasn’t going anywhere! It took Kevin over an hour to get it all out and even after that, I was picking egg out of my hair! Once again I say never again!!!
Maybe we aren’t following directions. Maybe Guido’s hair is just different from their dogs’ hair and he can’t have products that are that oily.
We did buy some flea medicine from our vet and are using it once a month. We just thought that we would speed up the process and try this too. Take some advice from me: don’t try this at home!

Black
It’s funny how every Saturday morning I want to sleep in – especially since Kevin can sleep in with me – but this never seems to happen. This morning I was ready to get up at 9:15. Since I got up, Kevin got up also. I started a pot of brown beans right after I made the coffee and we had them for dinner tonight.
This afternoon I went to my sister’s house for a jewelry party. Ashley ordered a pair of black earrings that she fell in love with. She got them at half price because of a discount that my sister received! Gotta love those discounts!
Tonight, Ashley and I watched Cheaper by the Dozen - the 2003 version. She had seen it before, but wanted to share it with me. It’s a very cute movie with lots of laughs and Bonnie Hunt is adorable!

The Pool Boy Is HOT!
Andrew started a savings account today at a local bank. They were having a customer appreciation lunch, so we were able to eat free. It was great food and I enjoyed talking to the grown-ups.
When we got back home, it was a steamy 91 degrees, so we went for a swim.
Here is my personal Pool Boy. He sure is handsome ;)
Ashley loves sitting in the floats:

Kevin's Day
Happy birthday to the love of my life …. No! Not Guido! Kevin! Happy birthday Kevin! I love you!
In other news:
We took Ashley to the doctor yesterday afternoon and she has an ear infection. I thought it may be swimmers ear, but the doctor said no. He said that swimmers ear usually occurs when a person is going from one pool to another. She has only been in our pool and has only gone three times now, so she has just a plain old, crummy ear infection. Lucky for her she gets to take the good tasting pink medicine!

Pop Quiz
Someone sent me the following frustrating quiz. Good luck! I hope you do better than I did!
Below are four (4) questions and a bonus question. You have to answer them instantly. You can't take your time, answer all of them immediately. OK? Let's find out just how clever you really are.
Ready? GO!!! (scroll down)
First Question:
You are participating in a race. You overtake the second person.
What position are you in?
Answer: If you answered that you are first, then you are wrong! If you overtake the second person and you take his place, you are second! Try not to screw up in the next question.
To answer the second question, don't take as much time as you took for the first question.
Second Question:
If you overtake the last person, then you are...?
Answer: If you answered that you are second to last, then you are wrong again. Tell me, how can you overtake the LAST Person?
You're not very good at this! Are you?
Third Question:
Very tricky math! Note: This must be done in your head only.
Do NOT use paper and pencil or a calculator. Try it.
Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10. What is the total?
Scroll down for answer.
Did you get 5000?
The correct answer is actually 4100.
Don't believe it? Check with your calculator! Today is definitely not your day. Maybe you will get the last question right?
Fourth Question:
Mary's father has five daughters: 1. Nana, 2. Nene, 3. Nini, 4. Nono.
What is the name of the fifth daughter?
Answer: Nunu?
NO! Of course not.
Her name is Mary. Read the question again
Okay, now the bonus round:
There is a mute person who wants to buy a toothbrush. By imitating the action of brushing one's teeth he successfully expresses himself to the shopkeeper and the purchase is done.
Now if there is a blind man who wishes to buy a pair of sunglasses, how should he express himself?
He just has to open his mouth and ask, so simple.

Spam
About a week ago, GW blogged about silly spam. I found this interesting since I too get so much spam.
After a while of deleting these emails and not clicking on anything in them, I would think that they would get the hint that I am not interested and not send any more – no such luck. I still get at least five pieces of spam per day. Here is what I have ready to be deleted in my inbox right now:
* From: Georg Mendez
Subject: Re:SteelMaan
Content: total gibberish
My Thought: Putting the letters “Re” in the subject doesn’t make me think that I actually wrote to you.
* From: Marquis Parham
Subject: Rachelle Mcnally
Content: more gibberish
My Thought: If you are going to put a person’s name in the subject area – make sure that I at least recognize that name.
* From: Pedro Madison
Subject: Professional Refinances Made Easy
Content: Tells me that I have been pre-approved for a $459,000 home loan
My Thought: This is just way too funny. Unless I win the lottery, I will never be able to afford a home at that price!
* From: Christian Discoveries
Subject: For Christian Singles Only
Content: Talks about an group called MatchWise who only accepts American Christians
My Thought: I am not single and isn’t it prejudice to only accept Americans?
* From: Lucrecia Jordan
Subject: Use Your Talent to Be An Investigator
Content: A “Work from Home” ad
My Thought: What in the world would make them think I wanted to be an investigator? Is it because I’m nosey sometimes?
* From: Kristja Hough
Subject: Do You Need It?
Content: Some sentences are gibberish while others look like passages from a book
My Thought: I don’t know if I need it if I don’t know what it is.
* From: Son Harvey
Subject: Your Friends Will Envy You
Content: Talks about someone who went from 2 inches to 6 inches
My Thought: You are emailing a girl dimwit!
* From: Olivia Napier
Subject: No Selling! No Boss!
Content: Make $1500 to $3500 per day for returning phone calls
My Thought: This must involve something illegal.
Unbelievably, I had more – five more to be exact. As long as I get them, I’ll continue to use the delete option. That’s the best option I have!

My Baby
Today is Ashley’s 9th birthday. I will say what all mother’s say … I can’t believe it! She is growing up so fast!
It may be a cliché, but I really do feel that way. The years seem to slip right through my fingers. Here she is on the bike we bought for her:
We have some activities planned for tomorrow with the family, so I will try to post more pictures after that.
We went to the theatre yesterday and saw Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. It was a great movie, but what surprised me the most was that none of us had to get up to go to the bathroom throughout the entire thing! As a mother, I try to get the kids to drain every, last ounce of pee out of their bodies before the movie starts. It kills me to pay $50 for a movie and then have to get up to use the bathroom. Yes, it literally cost us $50. It was over $25 to get in and another $25 at the concession stand. Now you know why we borrow the free ones from the library. Yea, they may be older, but they are still FREE!

Ayn Rand
I read practically all day yesterday until I finished a book that I started over two weeks ago. It was almost 500 pages, but took longer because I don’t have the reading time that I normally do. Don’t ask me what the book was; it was a good book, but the name makes it sound nasty even though it wasn’t. I even hoped that no one outside the house would see me reading it because the name sounds so sleazy. Authors should keep that in mind!
I am now starting a book that has 1069 pages. It will probably take me a month to finish it. It is called Atlas Shrugged. Kevin read it a few months ago, so I can at least discuss it with him. There is nothing better than being able to discuss a good book. Have any of you read it?

My Yard
If I do say so myself, our yard looks beautiful. Yesterday was a yard workday. We trimmed the tree and bushes, cleaned out the gutters, swept the sidewalk, and mowed the yard. It was a lot of work, but well worth it from the looks of it now.
The neighbors think that we are odd for sitting under the weeping willow tree, which is in the front yard. They give us looks and one of them even asked, “You still hiding under that tree?”
“Yes,” I replied, “We are.”
Maybe they feel spied upon since they can’t get a clear view of us from under there. It really doesn’t bother me though and I won’t be deterred.
I thoroughly enjoy being out there. It’s shady and always cool and it’s nice the way the branches sway back and forth. They just don’t know what they’re missing!
