Movies
Okay, here’s the very odd list of the past three movies I have watched:
On Thursday, Ashley had strep throat and we watched: Peyton Place.
Last night, both kids were gone, so we watched: Underworld.
This afternoon, Kevin, Ashley, and I watched: Flightplan.
Talk about your different genres of movies!! The first one was from the late 50’s, the second was kind of scary and gory and the third was a drama. My favorite of the three? Without a doubt, it was Flightplan. I highly recommend renting it!

Sheldon’s books are easy to read, but exceptionally hard to put down!

Songs
THIS is a cool site. You can see what the #1 song was in the United States on the day you were born or any other day.
Just in case you’re curious, American Pie by Don McLean was the #1 song the year I was born.

Bison
Kevin and I have found a new place to eat! Today we had lunch at Ted's Montana Grill, founded by Ted Turner. For those of you near Lexington, the one we found was in Hamburg next to Victoria’s Secret.
To get in the restaurant, you go through a revolving door. The first thing you see is this gorgeous bar:

One of the next things that I noticed was “Harold” the bison:

Kevin and I had never eaten bison, so they gave us a sample. It was sweeter than beef, much more tender, and superb to say the least!
We both had huge hamburgers with French fries, but because we both love onion rings, we ordered a serving to share. They were delicious and just about as big around as the plate!
I listened to Bing Crosby sing as I ate in bliss.
We will return.

Play Doh
This picture just proves that Play Doh is fun at any age:

This is the real Spongebob Squarepants:

This is Andrew’s version:

And this is Ashley’s version:

Neither one of them had a picture to go by, so I think they both did a GREAT job! I still enjoy playing with Play Doh myself. I especially like the smell ;)

Unexpected Angel
A parent bought me this pretty, little angel because I “support her daughter’s spunkiness”. Yes, the more personality they have and the more active they are – the more I seem to be drawn to them. I can’t help it.

The main teacher bought me this hamster along with the box of chocolate you see in the front. The hamster sings, I Will Follow Him. Guido is very uncertain of this new addition to the family.

Another parent gave me a gift bag with lots of candy and chocolate and a Home Interior candle. The candle scent is Chocolate Dipped Strawberries. Yum!

This is what I received in my Valentine bag:

As I said last night, this was all very unexpected, but I am so grateful that I was thought of.

V Day
Kevin bought me twelve beautiful pink roses for Valentine’s Day:

I prefer this photo though; it is softer:

He also brought me a huge box of chocolates. He says that we can share:

My mom and dad bought me this stunning purse:

I was surprised today at school by the gifts that I received there. I wasn’t expecting anything but valentines. Maybe I will share those with you tomorrow.

Pain
Yesterday morning when I got up, my throat was sore. I figured a few cough drops would make it feel better and that would be the end of it. Yea, right.
As the day progressed, it got more painful and I knew that I would have to see a doctor. I went to the walk-in clinic and sat in the waiting room for about an hour before they called my name. By this time, my throat was in immense pain, it hurt to speak and all I wanted to do was lie down. The nurse took my temperature and it was 100.2. She then, swabbed my throat for strep and I waited some more.
The test was negative (which was completely shocking to me), so the doctor swabbed my throat again so that they could do a more thorough test. This one takes 24 hours, so I won’t find out anything until tomorrow. She prescribed me a Z-pack, so if I do have strep, this medicine will take care of it.
I am home from work today. I did everything last night that I normally do to prepare for work the following day. I laid my clothes out, made my lunch, and had my purse ready to go on the kitchen table, but when I woke up this morning I knew that there was no way I could go. It is extremely painful when I swallow or clear my throat. I am hopeful though that I will be well enough to go in tomorrow. It is the Valentines Day party and parents have been invited to attend. I know that the girls will need lots of help preparing. The kids will be wild.
On a totally different subject:
Just when you thought you had seen it all.

Not Outdated Yet
These are little pieces of heaven:

I made out my Valentines cards for the kids at school. As you can see, I have collected way too many to choose from:

I still have Ninja Turtles from when they were popular the first time. The same thing goes for Batman. Now, I do believe they are back and popular again. The kids won’t have a clue what the date at the bottom means anyway!

February Snow
We awoke this morning to snow covered grounds and trees. It was a beautiful blanket of white. The snow continued to fall as I admired its loveliness.

Kevin and Ashley made a snowman. He has Weeping Willow arms and hair:

Too Personal To Post?
Sunday morning in church, our pastor gave us a quote that he saw on a bumper sticker:
It read, “I like your Christ, but I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”
- Ghandi
I was surprised by this quote, but then quickly wrote it down for future reference. I knew that I needed to remember it and keep it close. In short, I think it is saying that many Christians don’t practice what they preach. We say that we are Christians, but then don’t walk the walk and talk the talk outside of church.
Personally, I am working on this. Before I got this job, it was a lot easier for me to get by. Now, I am around five other women all day, every day, and five days a week. It can be hard to always say the right thing and do the right thing.
When I started back in August, I know that I was a different person. You see, I was praying, but I wasn’t praying for myself at work. I was praying for Kevin and the kids, the pets, and the cars, and so on. I still pray for those things, but now I pray for me too. I pray that I will have patience. I pray that the Lord will keep my mouth shut. I pray that I will have a good day and be able to deal with whatever situation arises.
Prayer has helped. That, and me trying to set a good example. In a lot of ways that seems funny to me – yea, ME try to set a good example. But I do. I know I’m far from perfect and I don’t handle everything with the grace that I should, but I do handle a lot of things very well and I think people see that. I hope they see a difference because I am trying to walk the walk … with lots of help.

The Incredible, Edible Egg
Sunday after church, I was eating this:

It’s a western omelet with ham, cheese, onions, and peppers. When Kevin makes them here at home, they have these same ingredients. I think I am an egg fanatic!

Tuesdays with Morrie: An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life's Greatest Lesson
Tuesday’s With Morrie would have to be in my list of Top 20 books. It is the story of a middle-aged man who spends his Tuesday’s learning life lessons from his former professor who is now dying of Lou Gehrig’s disease.Tuesday’s With Morrie was full of insight. Each page showed what kind of person we should strive to be.
I loved many things that Morrie said, but one of my favorites was, “Death ends a life, not a relationship.”
I also appreciated the simple observations of everyday life; for example, when Mitch notices that while dying, Morrie has whiskers on his face. He ponders, “How could there be new life in his beard when it was draining everywhere else?”
I would highly recommend this book. It’s not long and it’s an easy read.

Pink & Red
Last night we made Valentine cookies. We used sugar cookie dough, pink icing (we used food coloring), and red sprinkles. This morning the house still smells like sugar.
Here Ashley is cutting the dough:

Redlight!
I attended the same elementary school in the third through sixth grades and I loved it. If I could somehow go back to around 1982 – I would. I reminisce almost every day about how differently I would do things. Yes, I do love my life now and I try to cherish every day. However, each one of us has something that they wish they do over. For me, that would be elementary school.
Even though I loved it and have very fond memories, if I could do it over, I would study more. I would study and pay attention in class. I would read harder books and challenge myself instead of reading the same ones that I had read ten times before. It bothers me now to know that I had a great opportunity and wasted it.
Okay, before I get too deep into that reverie, let me give you the purpose of this post. I want to introduce you to The Stoplight:

This stoplight hung and still hangs in the cafeteria/gym of my old elementary school. It is used to control the volume of voices during lunchtime.

A green light symbolizes free talk. You can talk as much as you want. Watch out though – if the yellow light comes on it means you are getting too loud and need to whisper.

Once the read light comes on, children quickly hush what they are saying. You can hear a pin drop. If anyone talks during the red light, they are banned to “the bad table” to sit alone during the rest of the lunch period and quite possibly the rest of the week.
Our preschool class has gym time each morning. We have used The Stoplight for the game Redlight – Greenlight and the kids love it! I don’t think it was ever used for a fun purpose when I was a kid. No way! Back then, it was somewhat scary.

Cloud Nine
Thanks to my Aunt Becky and Uncle Ray, Guido now has tons of stuffed toys! He had never experienced the joy of sinking his teeth into a stuffed animal.

Now he is on cloud nine!

Friday is here and I am so ready for the weekend. I am very tired though. Working all week with three and four year olds tends to do that to a person.
Each Friday we visit the first grade class so the older kids can read a book to our kids. They love it! While I was there today, I saw some cool Valentine boxes:
This one is a castle:

Star Wars theme:

I have more pictures, but I will save them for another time. Right now, I think I need a nap!

Stamps
Look at the cute stamps now for sale at the post office:

The bookish among you will recognize Curious George, Wilbur the pig from Charlotte’s Web, The Hungry Caterpillar, and so on. I think they are adorable. I always try to get my stamps directly at the post office so that I have a wider choice. It's nice to add that unusual touch to the bills!
I don’t have much to say tonight. This has been a rough week so far and I can hardly wait for the weekend to recoup. I only hope that the weekend is enough.
