Sad Song

Has anyone heard the Hinder song Lips Of An Angel? Here are the lyrics:

Lips of An Angel
By: Hinder

Honey why are you calling me so late
It’s kinda hard to talk right now
Honey why are you crying is everything okay
I gotta whisper cause I can’t be too loud
Well, my girls in the next room
Sometimes I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on
It’s really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak
And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

It’s funny that you’re calling me tonight
And yes I’ve dreamt of you too
And does he know you’re talking to me
Will it start a fight
No I don’t think she has a clue
Well my girls in the next room
Sometimes I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on
It’s really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak
And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

It’s really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak
And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel
(And I never wanna say goodbye)
But girl you make it so hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel
Honey why are you calling me so late

***

As you can see it’s about a guy who’s ex is calling him on the phone. The guy is clearly involved in a relationship, however, it is also clear that he still thinks of her – the ex.

I heard this song on the radio twice today. The first time when I heard the first few lines, I thought it was going to be a sweet “I miss you” type of song, but then (in my mind anyway), it turned sour very quickly.

The second time I heard it, I turned it up so I could make sure I was getting the gist of it. Sure enough, I was.

Why would anyone want to sing along to a song like this? To me, it’s just depressing to the max. Maybe I’m sensitive because of some issues surrounding someone I know. I do know that I would never want to be that poor woman in the next room who doesn’t have a clue her boyfriend (or husband) is having adulterous thoughts.

The guy has a great voice, but the song makes me sad.

Economics

I went to Ashley’s school this morning and volunteered for a few hours.

In Social Studies, they are working on a chapter about economics. To show the kids what this is all about and not just tell them, they are making things to sell. They will learn how to make a product, sell it, and earn money.

Today they made Christmas ornaments by filling clear Christmas balls and then painting them. They also decorated picture frames, made flower ink pens, and dog bone reindeer ornaments. I’m sure there was more, but my brain is tired. It’s been a while since I was around that many 10 year-olds at once!

I know they also plan to make picture frames with magnets on the back (to stick to the fridge) and snow globes – I think these will be made using baby food jars.

Maybe I can get a few pictures of the finished products later.

Shame On You!

I am apparently way behind on this news story, but I still feel the need to comment.

Here is what I know.

* Troy Gentry, who is part of the country music group Montgomery Gentry, bought a bear for around $4650.

* This was a TAME bear used for wildlife photography.

* After Gentry bought the bear, he enclosed it in a pen.

* While this TAME bear was enclosed in this pen, Gentry shot it with a bow and arrow.

* The bear’s hide was shipped to Kentucky for mounting.

* This shooting was videotaped and then, later, edited to make it look as though Gentry shot the TAME bear under normal hunting circumstances.

* The bear was tagged as if killed in the wild.

* Gentry was charged for not having a proper permit.

CMT.com staff writes:

Gentry's manager, Johnny Dorris, responded to the charges in a written statement.

"Our artist Troy Gentry, half of the country music duo Montgomery Gentry, appeared in a Duluth, Minn., court ... to plead not guilty to charges he hunted a black bear without the proper permit approximately two years ago," Dorris said. "He relied on the knowledge and expertise of a local guide to obtain the proper permit. Troy felt what he did was legal and in full compliance of the law and was surprised to hear of the indictment. Troy is an avid outdoorsman and has great respect for the laws that protect our natural resources. He expects to be exonerated when all of the facts are brought to light."

HERE is the full article.

My thoughts:

Doesn’t your brain tell you anything, Mr. Gentry; if not your brain, then your heart?

Even if an expert said it was okay, why in the world would you shoot a TAME animal TRAPPED INSIDE a pen?

What you did was sick and immoral. You may have apologized for breaking a law, but you did not apologize for killing a trapped, innocent. Shame on you!

This is akin to shooting an animal in the zoo!

A Soldier's Christmas

mdh1%20%28Custom%29.jpg

From my inbox:

A Soldier's Christmas
By Michael Marks

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight;
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.

Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight;
The sparkling lights in the tree, I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.

My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep
In perfect contentment or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eye when it tickled my ear;
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,
Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.

My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near;
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold;
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light,
Then he sighed and he said "It's really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night.

"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line
That separates you from the darkest of times;
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.

"My Gramps died at 'Pearl' on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram' always remembers;
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam,
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.

"I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile;"
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red white and blue ... an American flag.

"I can live through the cold and the being alone
Away from my family, my house and my home;
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.

"I can carry the weight of killing another
Or lay down my life with my sisters and brothers
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To insure for all time that this flag will not fall.

"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."

"But isn't there something I can do, at the least
Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.

"For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

On Friday

Thanksgiving on Friday went well.

I think this was one of the only times we saw Miss Prissy throughout the day:

08%20%28Custom%29.jpg

Once the kids arrived, she was nowhere to be seen.

We played lots of games: Pass The Present, Guess the Movie From the Quote, The “F” Word (all the answers began with the letter F), Apples To Apples, Cranium Turbo, Bingo, and more. Everyone went home with a prize. Since I love games, this was my favorite part of the day.

There was lots of food including green beans, mashed potatoes, hash brown casserole, deviled eggs, turkey, country ham, cranberries, macaroni and cheese, broccoli casserole, oyster casserole, sweet potatoes, salad, fruit salad, rolls, and gravy. I’ve probably left something out!

There were six desserts to choose from including Ooey Gooey Bars, Dirt Cake, Amaretto Cake, Peanut Butter Pie, Pumpkin Cheesecake, and Chess Pie.

Everything was delicious and I know mom appreciated everyone’s contributions to the dinner and dessert. Every little bit helps when you’re serving fourteen people.

We came home last night and I realized we had the whole weekend left to spend whichever way we want! The Christmas decorations are up and that’s a load off my mind. Everything looks beautiful.

Happy Thanksgiving!

While your family was sitting down to a turkey dinner, we were decorating for Christmas.

No, I haven’t forgotten about Thanksgiving and I am very thankful, but my mom decided we would have our Thanksgiving tomorrow. She has done this in the past and it works for her.

On this Thanksgiving Day I:

* Watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade

* Ate a delicious breakfast of eggs, bacon, and biscuits

* Dusted the living room in preparation for decorations

* Washed, folded, and put away two loads of clothes

* Ate pizza for dinner

* Decorated the Christmas tree

* Spent time sitting on the couch looking at the Christmas tree

Tonight I will:

* Watch Survivor

* Watch CSI

* Eat cake

* Watch ER

Tomorrow I will:

* Eat turkey

* Play games

* Spend time with family

I don’t know why she did it, but Ashley decided to brush herself blue last night:

Today I watched my nieces. They were both well behaved and I enjoyed having them.

While they were here, Ashley took some pictures of Sydnee (I guess Jesse wasn’t around.). I looked at the photos she took and knew that I just had to share this one with you.

Clean & Polished

Today Ashley went to the dentist for the first time ever. You may think that ten years is a very long time to wait, but I wouldn’t agree.

Unless your child has problems like cavities or pain, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to wait. We’re talking about baby teeth until a certain age anyway.

They’re going to fall out no matter what you do.

That may be a cynical way to look at it, but it’s true. You go in there with your child, spend lots of money (unless you have dental insurance – which we don’t) and then the teeth fall out and are replaced with new teeth to spend more money on.

Ashley still has eight baby teeth. They say she won’t loose them all until she’s about twelve years old, but she does have one loose one right now.

The hygienist cleaned and polished her teeth and then we spoke with the dentist. They were all very nice – especially the office people. Wrong or right, I judge a medical office by the people who work there - not just the doctor.

When I call to make the appointment, I want the person on the other end of the line to be understanding, courteous, and friendly. From the time I walk in the door of that office until the time I leave, I expect to see smiling faces and friendly help. If the office people aren’t friendly, I don’t go back – ever. When you have a happy office it shows and people will want to be there even if they are sick or needing some service.

The reason I keep going back to the same podiatrist is because she has great people working for her, her nurse is cheerful and talkative, and the doctor loves what she does. It makes me feel more confident having her work on my foot knowing that she’s enjoying herself.

Does that make sense?

Here’s Ashley getting ready:

Updates & Questions

I have two updates:

#1 Ashley received 120% on her Shelter Project. I should have said something a month ago, but I kept forgetting. Needless to say, we were thrilled with her grade.

#2 The church set a goal to collect 450 boxes for Operation Christmas Child. They collected a total of 458 boxes last Sunday, only we didn’t know it at the time. To date, they have collected 480 boxes.

Is there anything else I may have forgotten?

**********

Now for a few questions I received in an email:

Does a clean house indicate that there is a broken computer in it?

Why is it that no matter what color of bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white?

Is there ever a day when mattresses are NOT on sale?

Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with the hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?

How do those dead bugs get into closed light fixtures?

Why do we wash BATH towels? Aren't we clean when we use them? If not then what was the purpose of the bath?

Considering all the lint you get in your dryer, if you kept drying your clothes would they eventually just disappear?

Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over?

Is it true that the only difference between a yard sale and a trash pickup is how close to the road the stuff is placed?

Why is it that inside every older person there is a younger person wondering what happened?

Why do we never hear any father-in-law jokes?

Why do men forget everything and women remember everything?

Do Chinese people get hungry an hour after they eat American food?

Shouldn't all married men forget their mistakes? After all there's no sense in two people remembering the same things.

Nonesuch

For my Aunt Patt’s birthday, we traveled to Irish Acres in Nonesuch, Kentucky and ate at The Glitz.

When entering Irish Acres, you feel you have fallen into a magical wonderland. The smells are overwhelmingly wonderful, the music classical, calm, and relaxing. You immediately feel as though time no longer matters and all you want to do is stroll through each uniquely decorated room and gaze at the wonder of what lies before you.

The same feelings overcome you when you enter The Glitz; the restaurant located in the lower level of Irish Acres. Every bite must be savored and remembered.

This is a fairytale place and I highly recommend a visit.

Enjoy the Photo Gallery.

Busy Day

Kevin took Guido to the vet today for his yearly shots and his dog license. I don’t know about other places, but here in Clark County you have to have your dog licensed.

He weighed 25 pounds and he had his nails clipped. Now, Kevin needs to give him a bath!

I hate to bother him while he’s sleeping so soundly though. I think the shots have made him more tired than usual …. that’s pretty tired!

Believe it or not, I had my toenail wedged out again. What do they say – third times a charm? We’ll see. I have my doubts. If you’ve missed out on the exciting “Toe Drama” you can click HERE or HERE or HERE.

I think I did better emotionally today than the past two times. The pain didn’t seem so bad, so I guess I’m becoming accustomed to it.

I don’t read much in other blogs about people have procedures done. I wonder if this is because no one has gross problems like me, or do they simply not want to talk about things? Would other people consider this procedure or one like it private or even embarrassing?

Giving It Away

CBS has started doing something new during CSI and it’s killing me!

Last night, Kevin and I were watching CSI:New York. We had both formed a theory in the first few minutes of who we thought had killed the teenage victim in the story.

At 10:30, half way through the show, a CBS “commercial” came on telling us to grab our cell phones and vote for the person who we thought had killed the victim. CBS gave us three choices to choose from. The thing is none of the three choices was the person Kevin and I had thought was the killer! Talk about giving away an ending!

Now, having the evidence plus the three people to choose from it was easy to see who the killer was and guess the end of the story. This particular episode could have been a real shocker had we not had the three choices.

Why would a successful television show resort to such antics? Kevin says he is sending them an email today. Do you think it will do any good?

Toy Craze

I love my children dearly and I will do many things for them. However, I will not, sit in a line at Wal-Mart for two days waiting for the Playstation 3 to be released.

Let me set the scene for you.

I’m shopping in Wal-Mart this morning around 10 AM when I pass by the electronics department. Over to the side of one isle, people are sitting on foldout chairs. There are about eight of them so far.

I knew they were waiting for the release of the Playstation 3. I thought to myself, maybe it comes out tonight at midnight.

Later, I found out that it would not be released until midnight TOMORROW night – midnight, THURSDAY night.

Are these people insane? Do they have no lives? No responsibilities? No one to cook dinner for?

Personally, I think it’s asinine.

Kevin made a good point. They do have games for this system, but not many of the ones that are specially made for this system have been released. In other words, most of the games available now, will also run on the Playstation 2.

Oh, and did I mention that this game system is $600? Let that sink in.

$600.00

This reminds me of the Cabbage Patch Kids craze when I was younger. They normally sold for around $25, but you couldn’t find them anywhere. They sold out lightning fast.

One night my dad came home with two Cabbage Patch Kids; one for me and one for my sister. He paid $100 each for them!

My sister’s doll had blonde hair, but I thought mine was prettier. Her name was Genny Leena and she had long, red hair pulled back in pigtails. She was adorable! Actually, she looked a lot like THIS one. (This link probably won’t be good for long.)

Remember the Tickle Me Elmo craze?

How about the Furby craze?

So far, I haven’t wanted something so bad for my children that I would stand in a line for days to get it. I figure if I wait a few months, there will be plenty to go around.

Have you ever waited in line for a toy?

Too Yummy

I have found a recipe too yummy and easy not to pass on. Here goes:

Turtle Bars

Ingredients:

2 cups flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter softened
1 cup pecan halves

Topping Ingredients:

2/3 cup butter
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup Reeses peanut butter chips

Beat flour, sugar, and butter on medium speed for three minutes. Press this mixture into an ungreased 9 x 13 (cake) pan. Spread the pecans over the crust. (There will be gaps where there are no pecans. This is okay.)

For the topping: Combine the butter and brown sugar in a pan. Bring this mixture to a boil and stir constantly. After one minute, take this mixture off the heat and pour it over the pecans in the cake pan. (The liquid will spread out more when you put it in the oven.)

Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

After removing from oven: Sprinkle the chocolate and peanut butter chips over the top. Let this cool completely before cutting into squares.

Here’s what it looks like cooling in the cake pan:

turtlebars1%20%28Custom%29.jpg

Here they are cut into bars:

turtlebars2%20%28Custom%29.jpg

If you don’t like nuts: I did make a version without pecans for my aunt and she said they were just as good.

OCC

I am very proud that our church participates in Operation Christmas Child each year.

This program collects shoeboxes worldwide filled with Christmas presents and then distributes them to children in desperate situations. Gospel tracts in the child’s own language are added to each box.

We put things like notepaper, pens, a mirror, bowls, dolls, yo-yo’s, a recorder, a chalkboard, chalk, and more in each of our boxes. It was fun picking things out and knowing that a child somewhere will appreciate each item and it will make their Christmas more meaningful.

This was after church this morning:

The gifts stretch all the way from one side of the stage to the other. It’s an amazing sight to behold. The goal was to collect 450 boxes. I hope we reached it!

Veteran's Day

desertedpond%20%28Custom%29.jpg

I found the following Veteran’s Day facts HERE

* Veteran's Day is dedicated to honor all men and women, both living and deceased, who have served in the nation's armed forces.

* It is a legal federal holiday in the United States. Veteran's Day is always celebrated on November 11th, regardless of the day of the week on which it falls.

* In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th as Armistice Day to commemorate the end of World War I, which took place at the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month. Congress changed the name to Veteran's Day in 1954.

IN MEMORY OF DEPARTED COMRADES

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;

I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.

I am not there; I did not die in vain as
long as my sacrifice is not forgotten.

We Need A Little Christmas

For a week now, I have thought of a particular box. This box is in my utility room, high up on a shelf. It’s not heavy, so I have often daydreamed about sneaking in, climbing up on a chair, and bringing it and its contents down into the light.

You see, I know what is in the box because I helped pack it. I wrapped the delicate items with great care so nothing would break.

Kevin wrote on the box with a big, black Sharpie, “Caution. Stuff in Box!

Those words only seemed to remind me every time I looked up of what was in the box. Something was nagging at me to get that box down. Yes, it could have been that fact that I secretly started listening to Christmas music before Halloween. It could have been Dean Martin singing A Marshmallow World or Bing Crosby and David Bowie singing The Little Drummer Boy – who knows.

All I do know is that today was the day. The box was coming down.

But first, I had to free up some space. We have so much stuff and so little room that space is hard to come by. Christmas stuff is especially plentiful. I have to box things up to allow room for all the Christmas stuff. When we decorate, it is an all day affair.

In my eyes, getting this one, tiny box down was okay because it did clear up some space and we won’t have to deal with it on decorating day. (This will be my explanation to Kevin.)

I decided my end table would be the easiest thing to clear. I carried all the books I plan to read back to a corner of floor in the bedroom and that is where they will stay until after Christmas.

I carefully brought the box into the kitchen and unwrapped each new Christmas piece with care. My dad picked these out and bought them for me last year and I love them.

whatnots1%20%28Custom%29.jpg

It’s hard to really appreciate them from a picture, I know, but they remind me of something from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Maybe I will take a close-up picture of each one and put them into a photo gallery. That would show them off better.

For now, they are on my end table and I have a little piece of Christmas to look at while I listen to Loretta Lynn sing Country Christmas.

Different Thoughts

I can’t remember if I’ve posted this before, so I’m posting it again. It came from email.

ONLY IN AMERICA:

Only in America...do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front!

Only in America...do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries and a diet coke!

Only in America...do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters!

Only in America...do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage!

Only in America...do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

Only in America...do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'!

Only in America...do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering!

EVER WONDER...

Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?

Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed?

Why you never see the headline "Psychic Wins Lottery"?

Why "abbreviated" is such a long word?

Why doctors call what they do "practice"?

Why lemon juice is made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons?

Why the man who invests all your money is called a broker?

Why the time of day with the slowest traffic is called rush hour?

Why there isn't mouse-flavored cat food?

Why Noah didn't swat those two mosquitoes?

Why they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?!

Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?

If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

Shopping

I feel like we got a lot accomplished today even though we only bought five presents. As I mentioned yesterday, we did go in Joseph Beth and Hallmark. Hallmark has so many pretty Christmas items! Other than those stores, we were in The Disney Store, Bath & Body Works, Target, Gap Kids, and Dillards. The mall wasn’t near as bad as I thought it would be. We found a parking space relatively close to the door and we got in and out with ease. You can’t beat that!

We stayed away from the entire downtown area because there was a game at 1:00. Maybe next weekend we’ll get down there. I need to visit The Book Cellar (haha).

When we got home, Kevin got the mail. We had eight pieces and EVERY piece was a political ad. I’m glad none were bills, but these people are spending so much money on these ads. We’ve been getting no less than two ads a day from the same man for a week now.

Today is Friday and I can already tell this will be a great weekend. As I sat down at the computer this morning, the first song I heard was Talk by Coldplay. I love Coldplay.

Then, I received an email from Hallmark informing me that this weekend is their holiday open house. Not to mention another email from Joseph-Beth letting me know that everything is 20% off Friday and Saturday. Guess where Tami will be this weekend.

Since I’m in such a happy mood …. I may even have to wrap some Christmas presents I’m in such a good mood …. I want to share two jokes that I received through email. So without further ado …

Joke #1

An elderly man in Phoenix calls his son, Bob, in New York and says, "I hate to ruin your day, but your mother and I are divorcing. Forty-five years of misery is enough! I'm sick of
her and I'm sick of talking about this, so call your sister in Boston and tell her." He then hangs up.

The son frantically calls his sister, who goes nuts upon hearing the news.

She calls her father and yells, "You are not getting a divorce! Bob and I will be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a single thing, do you hear me"?

The father hangs up the phone, turns to his wife and says, "It worked! The kids are coming for a visit and they're paying their own way!"

Joke #2

Three women - two younger and one senior citizen were sitting in a sauna when suddenly, there was a beeping sound. The young woman pressed her forearm and the beep stopped.

The others looked at her questioningly.

"That was my pager," she said. "I have a microchip under the skin of my arm."

A few minutes later, a phone rang. The second young woman lifted her palm to her ear. When she finished, she explained.

"That was my mobile phone. I have a microchip in my hand."

The older woman felt very low tech, so as to not be outdone, she decided she had to do something just as impressive.

She stepped out of the sauna and went to the bathroom. She returned with a piece of toilet paper hanging from her rear end.

The others raised their eyebrows and stared at her.

The older woman finally said, "Well, will you look at that! I'm getting a fax."

Whiter Teeth In 10 Days

I often wonder if certain products work or if new foods are good, but I don’t want to spend the money trying them. I’m not one to try new things and I don’t want to feel in the end that I threw my money out the window. I’m sure you can relate. For this reason, I want to tell you about a product I recently tried.

A few weeks ago, I asked a friend how she kept her teeth so white and she told me about Crest Whitestrips. I had wondered if they really whitened, but I never wanted to spend the $40. I know that’s a lot cheaper than going to the dentist and paying $350, but still, $40 is $40! The only downside she said was they made her teeth sensitive for a few hours after using them. She said that one day her teeth were so sensitive; she had to skip using the Whitestrip.

Since they worked so well for her, I decided I would bite the bullet and try them. Here is what you get for your $40:

In the blue container, you get 20 blue packets (these are for your upper teeth) and 20 white packets (for your lower teeth) and a set of instructions. I have no idea why they put them in such a large container when these would easily fit in something the size of a band-aid box.

You wear the strips twice a day, thirty minutes each time, for ten days. Here’s what they look like:

The strips have a gel-like substance on them, which whitens, but it also helps the strip stay on your teeth. The directions say you can talk with them on, but I wasn’t comfortable doing this. I wanted to keep them perfectly in place and I felt when I talked, my tongue moved them slightly. I was afraid of getting discoloration if they moved.

All went well. I did one 30-minute interval each day in the afternoon and another before bedtime. On day 7 out of 10, my teeth began to get sensitive. It felt like a small ache. Fortunately, it went away in a few hours.

The next day, however, after using the strips, it was worse pain. The directions say that you can do just one treatment per day, but I wanted to stay on schedule and do twice a day. Therefore, I did my treatment before bedtime.

Boy! I thought something was really wrong. It hurt so bad! I have never had a cavity, but I would assume this is what it feels like. It was a horrible aching all over my teeth. I could feel each tooth individually and each tooth hurt. Sleep was my only escape.

After that, I decided to do one treatment a day. This decision caused me to use the strips for four more days instead of just two, but I don’t think I could have handled that pain again.

I can honestly say they worked. My teeth are whiter and I am happy about that. They don’t look as if I used Zoom!, but they look better. They are supposed to stay this way for 18 months (because I bought the premium).

The big question is would I do it again? My answer is: I don’t know.

I don’t know if the teeth sensitivity part was worth it. I mean, can it be good for your teeth if it does that? I wouldn’t think so, but I don’t know.

More Movies

It’s November 1st. The Halloween decorations came down at 7 AM this morning and the Thanksgiving decorations will go up in the next hour. I love having one holiday after another to celebrate. It keeps me in a good mood.

I promised I wouldn’t be backed up on my movie list anymore, so here is the inventory of the movies I watched in October:

10-2-06 Mean Girls - Ashley had been trying to get me to watch this movie forever. I’m glad I finally watched it. It was very funny and I loved the characters. This is THE movie for high school kids these days.

10-2-06 Cape Fear - I’ve told you how I feel about this movie. It’s freaky and scary too. I love Robert De Niro, but I wouldn’t want to hang out with him at the cape.

10-3-06 Quills - This movie is about the Marquis de Sade (the infamous sex writer) and the events that occur while he is locked away in an insane asylum. Geoffrey Rush was fantastic as the Marquis, but I also loved watching Kate Winslet and Joaquin Phoenix. This is definitely worth seeing.

10-9-06 The Cave - I didn’t get into this movie and neither did Kevin. I think it’s because the entire movie could have wrapped up in 45 minutes. Instead, it went on for an hour and a half. The story line wasn’t there. After an hour, I was just waiting for it to end.

10-9-06 Christmas in Connecticut - This is a romantic comedy from 1945. Even though the title has the word “Christmas” in it, it’s not really that Christmassy; not compared to other Christmas movies I watch every year.

10-10-06 The Mosquito Coast - How long has it been since you watched a movie where Harrison Ford was young? If it’s been too long, you need to rent this movie. He plays an inventor who wants to make a new life for himself and his family right in the middle of a jungle. River Phoenix plays one of his sons.

10-13-06 Friday the 13th - It had been many years since I had seen Jason Voorhees or heard the name Camp Crystal Lake. I remembered it being much worse (bloody) than it actually was. I also thought there was lots of nudity. Maybe there was in the movies that followed, but this first one wasn’t bad.

10-15-06 Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte - This is one of those freaky Bette Davis movies that you just have to love. It’s in black and white and was filmed in 1964. There are many surprising, graphic elements in this movie. It’s one of many Bette Davis movies I love.

10-20-06 Brokeback Mountain - This was a wonderful love story that touched my heart. It’s one of those movies that make you think for a long time afterwards. Watching Jake Gyllenhaal wasn’t too bad either ;)

10-21-06 Halloween - This is another movie that I remembered as being very bloody. In all actuality, I don’t believe there was ANY blood in this movie. There may have been some residue on the knife, but other than that – no blood. That’s not too shabby for a classic horror film.

10-24-06 Throw Momma from the Train - I have no idea what got me in the mood to watch this movie. I hadn’t seen it since I was about 16 years old. I still enjoyed it though and it still found it funny. With Danny DeVito and Billy Crystal, you pretty much know the movie will be funny.

10-27-06 Firewall - In this movie, Harrison Ford plays a security specialist who is forced to rob his own bank. This is a drama, but also very suspenseful. I would definitely watch it again.
